One of the guys at work brought in a S&W Model 15 today. He said he was selling it for a friend and he was asking $450.
The gun was in great shape so, I decided to buy it. But as always it never hurts to ask for a better deal, no matter how good the price is.
I asked if the owner would be willing to take $400 cash. About 30 minutes later I was told that he would take $400 and the rest is history.
Here are pics of my new S&W 15-3.

Do you think you will put different grips on it for shooting, GunnyUSMC? The factory "Magnas" are good looking, but a lot of people replace them.

PS - I just Googled the Model 15-3, and apparently it was made from 1967 to 1977 (unless I managed to goof). Yours looks great for a 42+ year old target pistol in a popular caliber. Those tend to get shot a lot.

I have a nice set of Houge wood grips that might make their way to it.
If you do, keep the Magnas, they are getting $$$ to replace.

Congratulations, Gunny! The M15 is one of the finest of any S&W revolvers, and for that matter, revolvers in general. Despite being little more than an M10 with adjustable sights, the 15 has a certain quality that exceeds the sum of its parts.

Bravo!

Nice gun! You done GREAT.

They are getting crazy anymore. I watch eBay for them on a pretty regular basis, and its pretty amazing what people are asking for them, and getting for them.

Definitely put them away and hold on to them if you swap them out.

Nice find especially in that condition for that low price! I've got a couple M10s already but if I found a M15 like that for $400 I'd buy it in a New York minute.

Ha! I knew you could get it for less! Great deal.
Not knowing much about my gun which is a model 19........ what is the difference between the two guns. Mine looks the same cept' for the barrel length.

In addition to the Model 19 being a .357 chambering vs the Model 15 being 38 Spl only is the fact your Model 19 will also have a fully shrouded ejector rod. This is also known as a half under lug or just half lug.

In my area, the Model 15 and 67 are two of the most unappreciated guns on the market. I've probably owned 6-7 Model 15's I the last 10 or so years and everyone of them had great actions and was a great shooter. There are some real bargains out there because dumb ass people must have a "magnum". At this time the only Model 15 I own is a 2" that is New in the Box and I'm quietly looking for a 4" to keep it company.

This 19 cost me $500 and I thought I got a good deal. Gunny- you rule the trading post!

Howdy

Very nice.

Very similar to my K-38 Combat Masterpiece. This one shipped in 1953. In 1957 the K-38 Combat Masterpiece became the Model 15. Mine is a five screw and has the Speed Hammer, and the front sight is pinned to the barrel. Otherwise they are the same.

For what its worth, whenever possibleI like to leave the original grips on my older revolvers. I like the Magnas just fine.

Ooooooooh, goody, this turned into a M15 picture thread!
View attachment 871432 Ill play:D.

BTW, I find the Magnas just fine for shooting .38s. They are a little too skinny for controlling Magnums, IMO.
One of the T grips fixes that right up. Keeps the good looks of the Magnas too.

I find the Houge rubber grips to work best for shooting though, especially if you shoot a lot. Ugly as hell though. :)

Mod. 15's are a little hard to find around here and when you do find one it's priced north of $500. I have only run across 4 or 5 in the last few years.
I like all types of guns and revolvers don't come up short in my house. I have 10 double action revolvers in 38 Spl and 14 other revolvers, not counting black powder.

I go back and forth about which I like best. The Model 15 or the 19. Since this is about the 15, I like them best. Ask about the 19, I'll change my mind.

Like a lot of guns, I've owned a half dozen Model 15's at one time. Finally decided that was silly so I sold all but one. That one, a 15-2, from 1966, I got about ten years or so ago. It has target hammer, target trigger, trigger stop, and diamond target stocks. I don't shoot it near enough. I need to correct that.
