Just got this little gem today for two bills. A little Ballistol brightened it right up.

I think Im going to spray paint it camoflage with some Krylon and find the cheapest chineese black synthetic forend I can find. Add a couple lights, a laser, forward pistol grip, about 6 feet of rail space and a really nice Magpul stock should just about do it......

Just kidding, Im leaving it as is.........:neener:

.

HAAAA...... You had me for a second:eek: I was just shaking my head and scrolling down when I found the kidding part. All laughs aside thats a great looking shotgun and it will handle just fine for years to come I would bet.

Ha.

A stenciled rack number and several years worth of character - what else could you want? You don't even have to add wear marks!

You couldn't find a better, more reliable CQB shotgun. I prefer them with only a front bead sight, but that one will do. And for those searching for the perfect ammo for that popper, ordinary 2 3/4" 00buck will do the job every time...

That is a nice 870. It has character and a career of service. It will serve you just fine. If I were to add anything it would be a magazine extension and maybe a mounted flashlight. Other than that it doesn't need anything but TLC.

The only this I plan to add to it is oil and some buckshot.......its so light in the front end and swings so nice I dont even think I want to add a magazine tube extension.

Surprisingly, it even came with a super bright orange follower that doesnt seem to have ever faced a shell. Im very happy with it.

The only improvements I would make...

...are:

-Detail strip and lube.

-Install flex-tab lifter.

-Open rear sight to a square notch.

-Replace front sight blade with a white centerline patridge post.

-Replace all springs.

-Seal all end grain and non-finished forend interior areas.

That is an 870 with character worth maintaining!

My beater 870 I bought about two years ago for a similar price is out at the "spa" getting a Cerakote finish this weekend. I think they said mine was a Dept. of Natural Resources cast off when I bought it. Older model, 18.5 inch barrel, bead sight, 2 3/4" loads only, without the tabs in the magazine tube so an extender will screw right on. It wasn't nearly as nice looking as yours. Appeared to be a "trunk gun" with most of the finish worn off the receiver and barrel. It came with synthetic stock and foregrip not aged wood like yours. The finish was rough but the action was nice and tight. Probably only saw the light of day at qualifying time. So a nice bath in mineral spirits followed by some media blasting followed by a coat or two of flat black Cerakote and a warm bake in the oven and mine should last a while longer too. Great guns! I always get a big grin when I pull the trigger and light up a target.

I love new toys but I just feel the beauty of a well taken care of older gun can't be beat. Earlier post used the word "character" and I think that really sums it up best (kind of like if they could talk the stories they would tell)...

-Happy Holidays
