On this thread, Matt G posted an excellent picture of a deer with the location of the vitals superimposed. This seems like a wondeful tool for the novice, and I was wondering if there were pics available of other game animals? I'm specifically interested in feral hogs. Thanks a lot.

Aw shucks.
I just Googled images of "deer", and copied it to Paint and did a little freehand drawing from what I've personally observed.

Others could provide their views on vitals on hog (very dfferent than deer!) and maybe bear? (I've never looked inside one; wouldn't know.)

The vitals on a feral be the same as on a domestic hog, right? I know a lot of schools do dissection on fetal pigs. Maybe I could look up a textbook on that to get an idea.

There are a couple of books from Safari press that do just that. The softcover quick reference guides are inexpensive.

That guy is majorly into hog hunting! Toward the bottom of the page:

There's a terrific book out by Craig Boddington called "The Perfect Shot for North American Game Animals" (from Safari Press) which has detailed photos with vitals superimposed on them.

I bought the book last year, and most NA species are covered, and it's well worth the cover price.

edit: sorry, just saw that it was already mentioned.

check with your state game association - the study guide for a hunting licnse in NJ shows I believe the vitals on bear and deer and shows how to safely field dress them . . .
