I recently learned about a PID controller. My type of gadget. The trouble I'm having is i don't know exactly what i need. Iv watched a few videos on how to hook one up but I'm still not sure what to actually buy. Ive found lots of threads on this topic but all seem to have dead end links or the parts aren't available anymore. Could someone help me with a low cost but effective pid build?

It's been years since I set one up.

This should be all you need.

1. Thermocouple Type depends on what heat range and accuracy you want. Most use a type K, J, and T for low temp. Digital PID can take most anything. You have different outer wire insulation, fiberglass is the most common for high temp. Teflon and plastics used for lower temps. Then you have the option of Grounded or non-grounded sheathed. Grounded responses faster but is subject to noise. Or just use the TC wire twisted together and/or welded. I have a little welder for making them up.

2. And a solid state relay (or scr) to switch the load. A mechanical relays burn out and stick.

Check out my video on annealing, here: https://videos.utahgunexchange.com/...brass-annealing-improved_3a8gswUMWVT4Tr6.html . It includes an inexpensive solution for you, with model numbers.
