pinned and recessed

OK folks,

Once again, did a bit of research thaht turned up not much, so another lame newbie question:

Exactly what does "pinned and recessed" mean.

In Smith and Wesson revolvers, the barrel and frame are pinned together by a visible pin.

Recessed means the revolver's chambers are countersunk.
