Which currently made semi-auto pistol caliber carbine would you want if you were in the market for one?

Chambered for any auto-loading centerfire pistol cartridge, but many in the poll are 9mm only. What I've listed are 16"+ barreled versions. Please add comments about SBR versions if that is something you would actually purchase or convert.

Up to 2 poll choices available so you can pick your first choice and a runner up.

Thanks in advance for your participation. :)

I voted JR carbine and AR type PCC.

With JR carbine:
  • You can change barrels to 9mm/40S&W/45ACP and also change out magwells for Glock/M&P/1911 magazines.
  • 1:16 barrel twist rate (instead of more common 1:10) which seems to produce greater accuracy.
With AR based PCC:
  • Parts are readily interchangeable with standard AR parts
Accuracy at 50 yards

I voted for the ruger pc carbine and an aero, but I wish I was rich so I could buy the whole list and compare. This class of rifle is so much about fun and handiness that you almost HAVE to try them out first to see which one works best for your needs.

No Pugugly, I mean, Hi-Point option?

A friend at the club has a HiPoint which proved to be extremely reliable. He had an Aimpoint on it when he invited me to shoot it and it was easy to stay on the chest of the 100m iron pig (which is only about 30cm).

I have a Numrich AutoOrdnance TM1 Thompson carbine in .45ACP. The recoil is very managable because the weight (11 lbs) is not. But that is a collector's curio, not a practical carbine.

ADDED: I would like to see the new Ruger pistol caliber carbine.

hi point coming out with a 10 mm too:D threaded barrel

I picked Other and AR-type... but what I meant by that is an updated version of the Marlin Camp Carbine, or an adaptation of the M1 Carbine in something like 10mm; I understand neither of those is currently being produced, but I hope someday my prayers will be answered. The concept of the Ruger PC9 is correct... minus a few things. I don't want the takedown version (because of it's inherent accuracy issues with a receiver mounted optic,) it's butt-ugly (as in Berth Butt ugly, one of the Butt sisters...) and I don't like Ruger stuff generally. I didn't pick the Zenith Z5 because I think that platform deserves SBR status. As far as an AR-type in 9/10/45... if they would scale it down for the appropriate rounds. The JR is close.

I chose the Just Right and the Hi Point. I detest the Hi Point pistols but I have to say that the Hi Point carbine is a reliable good shooting little gun and the Hi Point also happens to be very reasonably priced. The Just Right would probably be my first choice if price was not a consideration. I would get them in either 9mm or 40SW. I'd pick the 9 for the cheap price of the ammo for a fun, cheap plinker or chose the 40sw for something with some additional power.

True. I left out the older Ruger PC9/PC4 as well because the poll is for currently manufactured Pistol Caliber Carbines.
Ahh. I missed that somehow. It would be interesting to have the Marlins in there just to see how many would still like a new production one. Unfortunately the prices on these went through the roof. My first year 9mm was around 179.00 new at a gun show. Only had to replace the buffer.

The Ruger PC Carbine is the only one I voted for because it's the only one I'd want in 16" form. But I definitely want a Scorpion Evo 3 and a Colt 9mm AR as very short SBRs (5" - 8").

I am one of the few that has a Marlin 9 camp rifle and a S&W 5905 . Uses the same magazines >> I am happy do not need ant new fancy trigger lock keys

I bought a JRC this past year after giving up hope on Ruger. I’ll buy one of the Rugers when the market settles and then decide whether to keep the JRC or not. The ability to take down and use Glock mags are positives for both.
