I've slowly started a collection of surplus pistols - only 3 so far. I've looked to see what is available for racks to get them organized in my cabinet. Currently, I'm just laying them on their side propped up a little with a ball point pen, just to raise them off the shelf foam a little.

I've seen different ones, and most seem priced decent. Curious what people use and actually like. The ones that you pop the gun on the rod through the barrel and hag it make me wonder if that is a good idea to have something in the barrel like that.

Some of the 4 or 6 rack ones that you just place the pistols in look good, but then what do you do with the magazines. Those don't usually allocate a spot for mags. Anyway, just curious what people actually do with pistols for short and/or long term storage in safes and cabinets.

I like the one made from steel wire that are coated with some form of plastic. I still put every gun in a silicone sock, not only for rust protection, but also to help prevent safe dings.

I use two of the methods in Gunny’s link. The velcro holsters on the door and the wire rack. The holsters work fine, but it takes some fiddling to get everything lined up. Once done, no problem. The wire racks are great, but you may have to pull the entire rack out to remove or replace a pistol (depending on your shelves).

As for magazines, I store them in plastic bins outside the safe.

Edit - added magazine comment

ended up with a little Hornaday, 4 place wire rack holder with plastic coating. not perfect, but what is? for whatever reason I wanted to store them top up and not upside down, and they are upside down on this rack, but I'll get over it. seems to work good enough and it does certainly put more items in less overall space.
