Been out of shooting for a while, need a place to shot that does not cost anything. I use to go to Black's Creek road -- but it turns out that was private land after all -- I saw on the news that the land was now closed to shooting. Anyone know a place? Thanks.

Loads of BLM around there. If you dont mind driving towards Bruneau just before the road starts to go down hill by Loveridge Bridge there is Gravel Pit road....LOADS of open space out there.

Blackscreek road was/is not private land(outside of fenced areas). It was closed down/fenced off by BLM because of shooters leaving garbage out there. TV's, computers, refrigerators, washers/dryers, paper targets, boxes, spent shot gun shells, ammo boxes, etc. were left by people who didn't want them and decided they would take it out to the desert, shoot it up and leave it.

They put up numerous notices warning people they would close it off if it became a problem. Over a year or 2 it got worse, so they fenced it off.

If you head south of kuna mora on pleasant valley road, there's plenty of room. We usually head 10-15 miles south of kuna mora. Be aware that the birds of prey area is near there and that the national guard does maneuvering out there.

Just make sure you pick up your trash. I always come home with more stuff than I brought in. Clean up your area or we will all lose out.

slabuda: Bruneau seems like a long way to go.

IdahoLT1: I use to pick up a trash bag or two full when I was out there -- but it was a loosing battle. I'll have to check out pleasant valley road -- thanks.

Note that PV Road is subject to a safety closure. Shotguns and muzzleloaders only, north of the big power lines. To shoot rifles and pistols legally, you have to drive south past the power lines.

Dewey Dump.

Take Hwy.16 to Emmett, go straight onto Hwy.52, turn left at Dewey Rd. Follow the bend onto El Paso Rd. and turn right just past the bridge.

I would also like to hear of more places to shoot. I have only been shooting once since I moved and that was at the Blacks Creek public range. Still very reasonable prices compared to some places I have shot at.

Is it possible to get a map that shows BLM land? Otherwise, driving around I have seen some great places.

BIG E - " Is it possible to get a map that shows [Idaho] BLM land? "

Big E, it certainly is easy. As you're in Boise, go to the Federal U.S.F.S./BLM offices on Overland Blvd., directly adjacent to WalMart. They have all the BLM maps and Nat'l. Forest maps. I think the BLM maps are $5.00 each, plus or minus a few coins.

Good luck.

yes please if there is any other free places to shot rilfes near boise. i have heard that on 8th street in biose but is that free any restritions on ammo, ask due the fact i have an old 8mm yugo mauser and i use surples ammo

Just go down Pleasent Valley road to the Military training area. Its absurd how much area is out there to shoot on. Totally allowed and only 15-20 min outside of Boise.
