Hey everyone,

I have been cruising along with my reloading since the fall with a Redding single stage press and I am planning on purchasing a Dillon 550 but I need some advice.

Right now I have two sets of Dillon pistol dies, 9mm and 38spl. I also have the powder funnels for 9mm and 38 spl. I am planning to use the Dillon 550 for 9mm mainly and perhaps eventually for 38 spl and 223.

However if I purchase the 550 with 9mm caliber conversion then I think I will end up with a second 9mm powder funnel which I do not need.

What do you guys think I should do? Any other insight on what I should order? I have everything I need right now for reloading....other than a beautiful 550 to get going a little faster than my single stage will allow.

Thank you.

I have owned RCBS, Hornady, Lee and now Dillon 550b presses. The Dillon is king of the hill.

You have made a wise choice. Once you start using the Dillon, you will not want to use your other press.

bds, does Brian Enos have these in stock. (guess i could just click on the link couldnt i?)

it looks like yes, they are in stock...wow, that looks like quite a pretty machine...wish i wouldnt have spent about a years worth of my "gun money" on ammo this year already

Brian Enos doesn't have anything in stock, he drop ship from Dillon. I'm still waiting (6-8 weeks) but I'm not in a rush and he ships for free. If you pay money order he will give you couple % back too.

dont mean to hijack the post here but is the 550b a good one to start my reloading career on? i WILL have a mentor and i would like a progressive

I started my reloading career on a 550B, which I still use, some 20 odd years ago. My mentor had an upgraded 450 and advised me that I would be well equipped with a new 550B. He was right. Many times I would take my toolhead, dies and powder measure over to John my mentor and he would help me work up load. John lived in the country and had a range in his backyard so we could immediately test our latest load. John passed away 18 months ago and I sure miss him.

i guess one cant order straight from Dillon? is brian a member here or something?

I almost always order direct from Dillon. Ordered more quick changes last week, got them today.

Or at least fedex website says I got them today, wife cant find them where fedex says they left them which is at the front door.

I've always ordered direct from Dillon and got great service from them.
Call and order their great little catalog/magazine at 800-762-3844.
Your only regret will be not ordering two 550's. Buy plenty of extra primer pick up tubes and their flip tray.

I also started on a RL550b about 4 yrs ago. I ordered my last RL550b from Brian back in Dec of 2011. Can't beat free shipping on orders $400+. If you already have Dillon 9mm dies, and 38spl dies. I would just order the RL550b with the .223 dies/cal conversion, and order the conversion kit for 9mm, 38spl along with 2 extra tool heads. If you can swing the extra money I would get 2 extra powder measures. That would get you every thing you need to load all 3 calibers.

Lucky me, Fedex left my Dillon order at the back door of the empty house down the road. Neighbors told my wife they saw the truck going past our place so she went looking. I'm 3 measures short of having quick changes for everything I load
