I'm shopping for the next AR build (standard AR receiver), and I'm interested in a PCC. All of my other ARs are kit-built from PSA, and they serve my purposes perfectly.

And yet. . . I find a complete lack of 9mm AR kits! Why is this? Is the market too small, or is there something inherently finicky about 9mm ARs that makes them ill-suited to selling kits?

I'm not opposed to other brands (CBC for instance), but I would like to be able to reasonably expect an assembled kit to function. What's the problem here?

Check out New Frontier Armory.
They appear to depend on non-standard receivers. . . unless I'm missing something.

Is there something wrong with magwell inserts? Why aren't 9mm kits as common, and cheap, as 5.56 kits?

I built one for a buddy some time back. It was frustrating to figure out what parts were needed and find them. Ended up ordering from 4 places due to availability and price. And, he already had the lower. A magwell insert worked after some trial and error with modified Glock mags.
I sometimes see uppers, but you still need the buffer and magwell insert or the magpul mag guts to finish with a standard lower.

If you want to use a standard AR receiver, you can go with a Stern Defense adapter . It fits in the mag well so that you can use Glock mags. They also have one that uses M&P magazines.

You can build, or buy a complete upper.
Here's one I built on a PSA lower that takes Glock mags. I prefer the lowers that are made to take the Glock mags.

I have had very good luck with my PSA 9mm PCC. They had assembled uppers and assembled lowers on sale at different times so I took a chance and bought them separately, a couple of weeks apart. The lower uses Glock magazines, which I recommend. The only down side is that the bolt doesn't stay open after last round. Other brands are available that do for a lot more $$, and even then they are not totally reliable from what I have seen. I normally run 32 round magazines so if I run dry, shame on me.
