I've had aCobra .38 Dreeinger for a couiple years now and do carry it in my front pocket however it has limitations that being the safety, carrying it on the 1/2 cock setting and the strong hammer pull for cocking. In a pinch the Cobra will preform but you need to plan your scenerios for using it well.
Instead I often carry a Beretta 21A in .22LR in my front pocket holster. I find it's DA triger preferable and the 7 shot capacity to be a big plus for self defense. Put several .22 LR's in someones face and the fight is over!
The 2`A is about the same size as the Cobra and lighter.
Frankilly I like the nostalgia of using the Derringer but nostalgia might put you in a spot if you're not planning ahead... The Derringer has it's place even today.
