Saw in a gunstore case Friday a gun I'd never heard of.
I know and appreciate the early Police Positive Specials, Detective Specials, Cobras, and Agents with exposed ejector rods.
I also know of the later issued Police Positives, Vipers, and the others that have shrouded ejector rods but the rest of the barrel is normal size. Like the Model 19's, rather than the fully underlugged barrels of the Pythons or Diamondbacks.
Friday I see a later issued Police Positive with 4" barrel, , except it's got the full length underlug of the Diamondback and it's markings read Police Positive Mk. V !!!
I picked it up, and it had a heavier barrel than the later issued PP, and it's crown was countersunk and flat next to the bore. It was muzzle heavy like the now extinct Viper ( alloy frame and heavy barrel up front ) except this was with a steel frame. It really felt unbalanced and awkward.
I didn't have the money to buy it ( actually I did have a couple hundred with me ) so I put a payment to lay it away on my credit card.
So can anybody tell me more about this? I've never even heard of a D frame Colt called a PP Mk. V!
