I got one for a $309 bid from one of my favorite Gunbroker vendors. The stainless steel slide is scratched up some, but the internals look like it hasn't been shot much. I got it over a month ago and finally had a chance to shoot it last Saturday (hang my head in shame). I'd never shot a full-sized Sig service pistol before, but I'd heard they were very nice.
I wasn't shooting particularly well that day. The Sig was my fourth pistol to shoot and I hadn't done worth squat up until then. I was shooting at seven yards to test some small 380's, and finally loaded up the Sig.
The first 10 rounds were easily covered by the palm of my hand. So were the next ten rounds. My FiL wondered why I had suddenly learned how to shoot, so I let him shoot ten rounds. He made a beautiful tight group and immediately asked me where I'd gotten it from and how much I'd paid.
I finished up two boxes of ammo with it and the middle was missing from the paper target. There there five fliers out of the final ten, after I'd gotten tired, and all of the other rounds were in a very nice group. The trigger is super smooth, the sights are a good size, and it fits my XXL hands very well. I really like this pistol!
For the second time ever (the first was my $200 Star Super B), my FiL decided that he just had to immediately buy the same pistol that I'd just bought. The next auction was ending on Monday morning and he fully intended to win it. Unfortunately for him, his A/C died on Sunday night. He needed a new inside unit AND a new outside unit. So much for the Sig. As I told him, the good news is that he can shoot mine whenever he wants.
There are a bunch of these police turn-in Sig 229 40 caliber pistols for sale these days, and they are pretty cheap. I purposely avoided the DAK trigger models, since I read that lots of folks don't care for them. I would highly recommend the regular model. Mine is an extremely well-fitted, high-quality pistol. It's a great shooter. To get one for the price I paid is pretty much a steal. My advice is get one while you can.
