I am looking to join gun organizations which focus on the backing of legislature allowing CCW as well as preventing certain weapon bans.

I have read that the NRA is more into "sport shooting" rather than self-defense, however I am not completely opposed to joining them. I do want to join an organization that is multi-state if possible, since I do not plan to stay in TX all my life.

Any ideas?

This link offers a lifetime membership for the NRA at $750 dollars. Is that reasonable? The only problem is that it says the page is currently unavailable.

I've always felt that the NRA is a well rounded orrganization because of their subsidary organizations.
They have the NRA-ILA (Instiute for Legislative Action) that works on/lobbies for (or against) gun laws and the NRA-PVF (Political Victory Fund) which is a PAC for supporting pro-gun politicians and putting out information on the anti's. Depending on the time of year and circumstances I donate to one or the other.
As for the Life Member rate, well, that depends on your line of thinking and priorities. I was a regular member for 3 years before I became a Life Member, because it wasn't a priority of mine then.
