I don't usually get to het up about .357 Magnums, and they sort of become step children. So decided to photograph my Single Action .357s:

They are, L. to R.: Ruger Flat Top, Ruger Three Screw, Ruger New Model, Colt SAA, and Hy Hunter Western Six Shooter.

I bought the Flat Top in 1958 while at Ft. Ord, California. I had it case hardened by Doug Turnbull, and mesquite grips by CaryC.

The Three Screw is one of a pair I bought a few years ago, the other is the .44 Special I carry daily. This gun is straight stock, except I removed the transfer bar conversion, and added a grip frame from a Ruger Old Army, and a Clements wide trigger, and a steel ejector rod housing.

The New Model has a Super Blackhawk grip frame, and a steel ejector rod housing.

The Colt SAA has a brass backstrap from an 1851 Navy and a Smith & Wesson rear sight, and a Ruger Blackhawk front sight. One piece walnut grips by BobW.

The Hy Hunter has a brass trigger guard from a Colt 1851 Navy, a brass backstrap from a Hawes Western Marshal, and one piece grips by BobW.

Bob, you've got some great looking step-kids there Any time you want to put them as up for adoption I want you to know my door is always open for them.

Deog asked:

Question please. Can the 3 screw take higher pressure ammo compared to the new model.

I don't know. Nor do I intend to find out. Most .357 Magnum revolvers are proofed to around 48,000 psi. I won't try to push any revolver to the limits. If I need a really high velocity long range load, I'll go to my .44 Magnums.

Kernel asked:

Does this mean you have a couple of 1851's with, I presume, steel grip frames?

No. Many years ago, we made a trip up to Reelfoot Lake and stopped by Dixie Gun Works in Union City, Tennessee. I bought up a bunch of gun parts at that time, just in case.
