Possible New Colt Pythons?

I own more than one Python that I have shot thousands and thousands out of and have never had a failure of any kind let alone a "crack"....Matter of fact, yesterday while many of you were here talking about what a Python was, was not, is, or is gonna be or not be, I was at the range shooting a Python.
Never would suspect you as a python owner:uhoh:

Even as a Kid I have admired the Python, how could you not. I'm not sure if I'd spring for an old one but considering we were both born in 1955 I might have to buy one just because:)

Nice review by Ken Hackathorn, according to him, the gun is legit! They not only brought it back, but made some very good improvements to it.

Too bad for all the "Snake Handlers" that are sitting on a bunch of 2 to 3 thousand dollar revolvers, looks like them days are over!

My take away from the clip is that it may be time to dump your old Pythons and invest in something else.

For $1500- I am most definitely in on the new Python! 6 months from now we should be able to snap these up for a little north of a grand, word on the street is that they are really churning these guns out over at Colt.

If the new ones are better it's going to DESTROY the collector market.
Not sure if destroy is the right word for it. Vintage S&W revolvers are still very collectible and the folks who insist the older guns are better made than the newer ones will keep that market relevant into the future.

It sounds like this new Python may have eliminated some of the perceived issues with the old guns, so shooters likely will go for the new guns. But people will still collect vintage Pythons I think. The price may drop a bit, but I don't think you'll see the old ones selling for the same price as the new ones any time soon.

My LGS has one, haven't stopped in to check it out. Sent him a text asking what he thought and price. Said it feels fantastic. Asking 1699.... Asked him what drugs he's on since MSRP is 1500......

Ouch. Yeah, I have about the equivalent of $300 worth of patience on that. No way I'd pay that much. Guess I have plenty of time to save.

Speaking of 3” barrel Colt revolvers last night I handled a new 3” Colt King Cobra, and have to say I was favorably impressed. I had previously handled a new Colt Cobra a couple of years ago when they first came out and found the DA trigger to be lousy.

The King Cobra I handled last night must be a better representative of the new action because it was outstanding to be honest. The DA was so good I’d be tempted to bob the hammer spur and make it DAO. The fixed rear sight sucked though. Why in the heck can’t Colt just not bother trenching out the top strap, and instead cut a small dovetail at the rear of the frame and install a decent no snag drift adjustable rear sight? Such a move would make the 3” variant way more useful and versatile while not compromising the handling, or concealable nature at all.

Shows why you don’t buy the new model out of the gate for sure.

Also as a side note his videos are horrid to watch, he’s got one heck of a flinch along with a complete inability to run a DA revolver with a good grip or an understanding of unloading the gun.

Pulling the trigger not looking where the muzzle is, using a goofball “Rick Grimes” holster, generally poor gun handling, poor diagnostic skills.

I’m not saying his revolver does not work, it appears defective, but damn that video is painful to watch because of him.

They're going for more than that on Gunbroker as we speak.

Uhg, that was painful. Horrid flinch, can't use a speed loader. I'm no gem but if you're making you tube vids on reviews, you should atleast know the basics. Sucks he was having issues witht he gun though.

Doesn't have anything to do with the malfunctions. I've found Colt customer service to be pretty good.

AAAAAAAHHHHH! :barf:
Watching that guy run a revolver is painful. (And yes, I realize that has nothing to do with the gun problem he's having.)

If I were looking at getting a new Python, that video wouldn't dissuade me. Every maker puts out an imperfect product now and again. As long as they will make it right, it's not a big deal.

Now if there were several videos like that, or a number of reports of that kind of problem, that would be a different story.

Lots of reports of crown damage, Colt is admitting it and has discovered the process issue and is correcting it. I’m a Colt fan and will give them a chance to make things right. They should have been doing rigorous QC/QA on these just because of the hype though.

I am personally going to wait for the run of 4.25” guns anyway and by then hopefully any issues have been resolved.

Good lord that video is terrible to watch. His gun clearly has problems, but watching his handling is like watching a child figure out how to drive a call. Everything is executed poorly.

I sure hope Colt resolves these issues fast.

ED47156D-D250-4FD4-8888-0B7C259535A1.jpeg Another inconsistency with this guy. He claims to have shot Armscor ammo and proceeds to show the entire world Starline brass. Someone else commented on his video about it and he’s adamant that it’s Armscor.

I don't see the new ones ever being had for $1K. If you're a competition shooter definitely the new ones are the way to go, but not everyone is, I don't see the old ones dropping dramatically. My 1977 pristine Python has a breathtaking bluing job, and I don't expect to ever shoot it enough to wear it out.

SWAG:

Colt will do a carbon steel blued version if and when they reestablish the ability to produce an acceptable “Royal Blue” finish using a bluing process that is environmentally feasible, economically viable, and consistently repeatable. So they have to come up with a chemical bath to give the results they want, and train their staff well enough to polish the guns etc to do it. How long that will take is anybody’s guess. I’m hopeful that they do though.

I would think a blue version would go for a lot more than the $1,500 MSRP of the new one.
