I have been reloading for a little while now, but have been buying my cast bullets online until very recently when I came across a large source of free lead and would like to try my hand at powder coating the bullets I cast. I was wanting some advice on what brand to purchase. Essentially, I want to know what will be cheapest and still work well.

i use the HF red works fine sometime it will look thin, but think it's more the color. guys say stay away from black pc. has metal in it or something. when i run out of pc i will get it from eastwoods, they have 100s of colors, the blues cover nice. if you search there site you can find pc on sale. have you pc bullets before or just trying it out.
and welcome to THR.

Trying it out for some of my higher pressure cartridges to try and avoid leading. Thanks for the advice on the black pc. I was actually considering trying black. I like the looks of it. I'm not a huge fan of some of the more vibrant colors.

Got anything that coats as well as that in white? I'd like it thick as I plan to coat some 30-06...

white works sometimes it loos translucent, but that happens with light colors. do you have bullet sizers the pc will add .002 to them. i like to size after there cast then again after there coated.

I'll have sizers soon, but I'm not sure whether to get .311 or .309 sizers. .309 would seem to make more sense as it's a .308 bore, but I've heard from some people that you get get better accuracy with oversized bullets when dealing with calibers such as 30-06

you get some spring back after sizing with the powder coat. so sized to .309 will be about .310. see what work best.

I have been using the powders sold by poster smoke, a vendor on the cast boolits forum. Good quality, easy, inexpensive and he will sell you a sampler of a pound of powder split into 3 colors.

Not to detract from our fine site here or the good members but if really interested in casting and powder coating I think you should gander over to Cast Boolits.com and check them out. They believe Jacketed and Plated are swear words! I do believe a number of our members are also members there.

Do you have any picture samples of this powder? And could you also post a link to it as well?

I started with powder coating and then tried hi-tek coating and that’s what I continue to to use to this day.

This is my process minus the 10ml kids medicine syringe I use to measure the two parts for the coating.

I've only used Eastwood powders. All of the powders that I have tried coated well but the color is bit splotchy sometimes with some of the colors.

Red, Ford Blue, and MG Maroon work well. Clear worked well as well but it is hard to see if the bullet is actually coated.

I coated some bullets with a mix of red and yellow. Interesting result as unlike paint, the different colors did not blend together.

So you can potentially make tidied bullets? That would be the coolest bullets on the range...
