Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Powder River Cartridge Co.'s ammo, particularly the 45-70 standard velocity loads. They seem to get great reviews on the website.

I'm really tempted to order a box or two of their 405 gr loads. I typically shoot Remington's 405 gr ammo and these look to be comparable, with a bit higher velocity (1575 fps vs. Rem's 1330 fps).

Any first hand experience or info would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Out of curiosity, I checked their website to see how much shipping would be for 2 boxes...$19.38. :uhoh:

Might have to hold off on these. Or maybe I need to finally start reloading...

Shipping of ammo is what started me reloading (mine was the European 8mm), and I'm very glad I did. Just a suggestion.

A used press and 45-70 dies could probably be had for a hundred dollar bill, but careful about the addiction known as reloading. Once you're all set up you start shooting more cause the ammo is better and cheaper. I would go for it for a 45-70 though.

I may start keeping an eye out for them at reasonable prices. To keep the thread on track, I'm still interested to hear about any personal experience with this ammo. It looks like a good company and I like the looks of their offerings.

The comments on their instagram posts also indicate that people are pleased with the ammo. Heck if it is half as good as their pictures then I wouldn't hesitate to use it. I reload so I only buy ammo when I don't have time to load, but I would say get a few boxes and try it. Even with shipping it is cheaper than getting into reloading (dont ever believe someone who tells you that you will save money by reloading)

I ordered some .45-70 ammo from them for my Trapdoor Carbine. Haven't shot it yet, but nothing bad from the transaction with them. It did take a little bit for it to ship, and I emailed them about it. Got back to me quickly, apologizing about the backlog, but I was a part of a large surge of orders.

I got some standard lead 405 grain lead rounds, but also some of their 325 grain FTX. I think the latter was what people jumped to order, resulting in the backlog.

I do not currently reload due to space constraints (when I move into a larger house, then I will make the investment), but I'm thinking about getting a Lee Classic Reloader kit for the .45-70. It is my only single shot, so figured it would be the better choice to mess around with... as long as I stay in the Trapdoor area and not blow the gun up. [emoji41]

Screwball, let me know how it shoots once you get around to it. I'm interested in hearing about the performance. Thanks.
