I'd like to add Power Custom hammer & trigger kits to the Ruger single actions that I will purchase for CAS. I really want the "half-cock indexing" for loading and unloading. But, again the Blue VS Stainless issue complicates my choice.

Power custom "blues" the Blue kits to match the factory finish, but their "Stainless" kits are merely highly polished carbon steel parts. Kinda like the old "armoury bright" finish of my reproduction Civil War musket. (which is very prone to corrosion, let me tell you!)

Since, I was leaning toward Stainless Vaqueros and shooting black powder loads in the Frontier Cartridge Division, this gives me pause.

Anyone have experience with "stainless finish" Power Custom parts?
How are they holding up corrosion wise?

Thanx in advance! Dave.

I have the Power Custom Setup on a Stainless Vaquero and haven't had any problems, just keep it clean and oiled. The half cock notch is nice, makes it much easier to load and unload without looking at the gun. (I also have a freewheel pawl so I have some options, it's not a CAS gun BTW I doubt that pawl is legal.) It would be worth it for the half cock notch alone, but the trigger is great too, especially using the wolff springs that Power Custom sends with the kit.

It is a matter of personal choice. I didn't get that on my Rugers. The replacement of the factory springs with Wolff and polishing gave me the trigger I wanted. I am still debating the free spin pawl. It is a legal mod. I just load one and then skip one and load four. The way many CAS shooters keep their stripped, in the white firearms from rusting is waxing. The usual carnauba wax for your car works fine. Some have gone to the trouble of using Rennaisance wax. This wax is a museum quality wax. A good coat of oil is important. Enough to leave a shiny surface after wiping down.

I've heard good things, and have seen some of the finished guns in matches. The free paw is great for an" on the clock" load. Don't have one so,I just load it and count to four. The non ss parts really don't take any more cleaning, it's just harder to tell when it's clean. Even my ss pair will get stained with the black stuff, you just have to use a scotch pad or some pumice to shine it up. I don't know how the wax works, but oil on a black powder gun just makes the burn residue stick and gum up the action.IMHO I use a liberal cote of silicon spray, and wipe dry before shooting. Also use a black powder bullet lube on the cylinder base pin, paw, and gear(Bore Butter, S.P.G., Dixie G.W. etc.). S.R.
