Can any one tell what distances and procedures you go through while shooting at a unrestricted conceal carry course in New York state?Ill be taking the course in the future and would like to see how well i do_Of course you should be well practiced in many distances and scenarios, but i am interested specifically in the testing you go through in the training course .To be clear this is not the pistol permit course its the unrestricted carry course that is offered here in new york.thank you

Never got that far in my NY carry odyssey so not sure. I would suggest you call the training company you plan to use and ask the questions directly. I found several online, mostly in Western NY.

I have had a CCW in NYS since 1977 and I have NO idea as to what you are referencing.

I was a police officer, and never heard about that 'permit' of which you speak.

In my county [ Niagara ] you either have a restricted permit [ range & hunting ] or you get a CCW.

I could be wrong but this could be a county by county thing .when i first applied for my pistol permit it was for target and hunting only .Now there is a course you can take with specific training that will allow me to carry without restrictions. At any rate i finally did find what i was looking for and will begin to practice .thanks

Can you share details on the course of fire or accuracy expectations?

From what I read the live fire portion of the test is from 3-15 yards shooting at a 100 yard rifle target . Some of it is slow fire and some is timed .you must score 80 %or better ( don’t know what that means )no rim fire guns are allowed .if I can figure out how the post the link I will

I strongly suggest that you speak to legal authoritys that govern such stuff.
NRA,USCCA,CCW,2nd Amendment foundation = or all to see if the restrictions are legal.

This is a legitimate course in my area and until I take it I can’t comment on exactly the do’s and don’t s of it , but it essentially allows me to carry for more than hunting or target shooting . my son is a police officer as well so I’m sure he could help me out in the legal end of it .

I'm a NYS resident. I got my unrestricted CCW with no proof of training whatsoever, but times are changing.

As others have said, it's a county-by-county thing. Some counties mandate a specific course (NRA Basic Pistol, for example), while others are less picky and just want to see that you've taken some training.

Bottom line is to find out exactly which course your county wants and go from there. I'm an instructor in NRA Basic Pistol, Personal Protection In the Home, and Personal Protection Outside the Home, and none of those courses of fire are what I would call challenging.

Try doing a search for "New York unrestricted concealed carry". Lots of info and talk about it.
