Price Check On A Few Used S&W's

Price Check on a couple revolvers I saw at a local gunshop:

S&W Model 10, nickel finish, a few minor scratches, Pachmayr grips, $300

S&W Model 15, blued, adjustable sights, finish was very worn and some missing, Pachmayr grips, $300

The Model 10 seemed like good price but the Model 15 was a little "used". I'd love to get a nice .38, so is that a good deal?

The key question here is whether they are mechanically sound. If they are timed properly and are nice, tight guns, then $300 is probably a decent price for the Model 10 - however, the fact that someone changed the grips makes me go 'ugh.' Personally, I'd be looking to pay $250 or less for guns in that shape - there are plenty of used S&W .38s to be had, and a little patience will get you one in great shape for the right price. Not long ago, Southern Ohio Gun had Model 10s listed at $179.99 and Model 15s at $229.99. My .02.

I picked up a nickel model 10 that passed the march test with flying colors. Found it in a pawn shop with original grips this last spring. I paid $220 for it OTD.

They had a model 15, blued that was mechanically sound but the finish had some pitting and lots of scratches. They want $269 OTD for it. I passed but it didn't stay on the shelf very long.

Both prices would be about $75-$100 high in my area. Old S&W prices vary across the country though.

Thanks, I'll try to bring the nickel one down to about $220 or so. I'm pretty good at looking more educated than I really am and the revolver checkout will certainly help that out.

I think they both would have been 200 dollar guns a year ago, but prices have gone crazy lately.
I picked up a m15, 90%+ for 325 a few months ago. A 80% m10 last summer for 200.

I picked up a oh so slightly used S&W 4" pencil barrel, square butt, pinned
barrel, nickel finish model 10 with original "diamond grips"; made between
1963-1965 [as indicated by its C737xxx serial number], for a mere $200.
