Just wondering what the general pricing range on the Mini-14 Ranch model in the synthetic stock. So far I am seeing 640 for it and was wondering if I can get lower? After tax and dros and all that it comes out to be in the mid 700's...about 730.

How well do these shoot out of the box? Thanks

Ive never owned a mini-14 myself so, im sure someone else can give you better advice on how it shoots out of the box. But, i will say that by reputation it is a less than stellar performer in any configuration. On the other hand for that kind of money you could get yourself a pretty decent AR and have a much bigger aftermarket affordable highcaps and by most accounts a much better shooter.

Boy, it really sucks to live in Kali.....

I couldn't even imagine buying a Mini for $700. Not a bust on the Mini (I have one that has performed great for me), but there are a lot better rifles out there for $700.

BTW, I got my SS Mini-14 for $500 w/ 3 PMI hi-cap mags.

C_yeager - Look again... TW's from Los Angeles in the People's Republik of California... No AR, no hi-caps.

I have actually owned a Mini-14, Mini-30, and AR... and though the AR is more accurate, has better mags, etc... the 14 is still not "crud" by any means. If you use PMI mags, you'll most likely have 100% reliability from a light weight, handly little rifle with accuracy on par with an AK.

But $700! :scrutiny: Used is $400 - $500, and new is $600 around here.

A lot of times, when someone asks about a $500 Mini, guys will say things like "for just a couple hundred more, you could buy an AR". I don't know where you guys shop, but all the AR's around here start at $875 and go up quickly...

The Mini ain't the tops, that's usually true unless you work on em ...... but IMO forget the ranch and go for a std blued, which should be obtainable for around $400 I'd say .... and it'll shoot as well as a S/S I reckon.

My last one which is a #185xxx was near $450 IIRC but very new condition ... I have been well pleased and never expect miracles from this lil fella (or my earlier #'182xxx).... usually one outa five shots at 100 throws a group but hey .... it's still a great piece to have in the collection.

ah dang man im sorry. I didnt realize you were in california. my ccondolences. On the other hand i bet you can get a uhaul for under 700 bucks too! :neener:

I bought a new SS one for $660 OTD. That seems to be the price. If you want one you got to pay what they are selling for. Darn fine rifle and reliable. Mine was accurate also so I don't know what that talk is all about. It is not as accurate as a good AR-15 but it wasn't bad either. 4" groups at 100 yards with the peeps. I think that is fine for a carbine semi-auto.

You should get one, they are worth the money. Also they are fun and easy to shoot well. I sold mine because of the hi-cap situtation (very hard to find and very expensive for factory mags) but if you live in CA, that is a non-issue. I think you can still get some pretty decent 10 round mags for it for cheap. Don't torture yourself with an AR-15 if you live in CA, that is a sin to only have 10 round mags in a AR!

I have an SS Ranch rifle. In my opinion, the Mini-14 gets dogged a lot unjustly. Mine is totally reliable. Not as accurate as my AR-15 but not all over the place, either.
I always try to buy my weapons in SS or other upgraded finish. I use them hard and don't like to clean them after every outing. To me it's worth the extra cost.
If you ever want to use a scope, get the Ranch Rifle.

That is a high price. 6 months before 2000 I bought a SS ranch with plastic furniture for 459 bucks. Just looked at the receipt the other day. Then the prices went up! It's an ok semi under $500, but if you spend more, save a little bit, and get an AR15, unless your State's laws forbid it, which I would then recomend finding the cheapest Mini you can find.

My first Mini 14 was about $439 +tax and the background check.

My second one was $450+ (2) 20rd PMI mags, B-Square scope mount and a 4x scope.

Shop around for a used package deal. There are plenty of them out there.

The man has a point!

Thanks for the replies! Yeah I know, I would love to get an AR!!! I've always wanted one but at the time of the ban, I was not too aware of all the laws going on so that was my fault. :(

I think I am going to try and figure out a way to try out the mini before I plunk down, what seems to be more than usual!

I live in California too tw1112 and have looked into getting a Mini-14. $730 for one seems way too much and you are probably getting ripped off. If you live in the Los Angeles area you should be able to try Turner's Outdoorsman, they have very reasonable prices and have been really helpful every time I bought a firearm from them. If Turner's is still around $730 total you might also try getting a Mini-14 through the Impact Guns website. I have not personally used them but I have heard they are easy to deal with. They list their prices for Mini-14's from $439-$472.
