At the gunshop where I buy primers and powder I asked why he keeps his primers behind the counter and ammo, powder, etc is out front.

The folks that don't reload want to see what one looks like and open the box upside down. He rarely got help picking the up so moved 'em.

My little brother did that by mistake. I had to pick up about 50 primers off the floor. I told him not to touch them anymore. Felt bad but I made him understand why not to play around with them and to ask to see them.

LGS Has all that stuff behind the counter while another has EVERYTHING in front of the counter middle of the room. Handguns in glass and rifles/shotguns all over back and side walls.

That has always been a concern of mine, especially after working in the industry and personally wittnessing customers spilling hundreds, and sometimes more than one type. Small pistol and small rifle are difficult at best to tell apart. We too learned to put them behind the counter. There is absolutely no reason for a customer to open the box, or even handle them beyond picking up the type to be purchased.

I remember going to the LGS once years ago and getting some supplies with my grandfather. The salesman put our stuff in a double paper sack and I was charged with carrying it back to the truck. We looked at some shotguns and eventually left. When we got home and unpacked the bag the trays of primers, loose 223 brass, and 25 or so lead 45-70 bullets had all mixed together. The primer trays (CCI) had opened up and dumped some of the primers loose in the bag. There were LR, SR, and SP all mixed up. Gramps saved the mixed small primers out separately and used them on some 357 practice loads IIRC and next time HE carried the bag when we got primers. At least it was not a full box of each that got mixed up just about 30 or so we could not identify I think. These days that LGS sells primers with the trays taped shut if you buy less than 1K.
