Primer stuck in dillon pickup tube.

I currently have one primer stuck in my dillon pick up tube. I know I can push it out with the plastic follower but I am trying to avoid it.

Any suggestions or just put put the follower in and push it against the wall. The tube is open on both sides. which side of the primer is safer???

Dillon's advice is to leave it where it is, and scrap the whole primer tube; if you're not willing to do that, and absolutely want it out, I'd suggest that the only safe way to do it is to let the tube soak in penetrating oil like WD-40 overnight, and then push it out with a non-metallic rod. Since you're dealing with what is basically a small gun when you do this (an explosive charge in a tube), you want to wear gloves and safety glasses and have both ends pointed in a safe direction while you do this, and don't let any part of your body get in front of either end. If it DOES go off, it will also probably bulge the tube to the point where you'll probably have to get a new tube anyway. If you take it to Dillon (they're just around the corner in your neighbourhood anyway), they may just give you a new one.

Had the same problem a few times. Pressed them out from the anvil side and cup side w/o incident. Slow and sure pressure, no striking movements. Remember until the primer is pressed into the brass, the anvil isn't fully applied to the pellet so it isn't as sensitive to going off. This is especially true if you are hitting it from the side of the cup. I've torn primers to shreds before with side insertion/crushing during my early days of reloading. Dillon will send you a new one if you don't want to mess with it.

That doesn't leave much reason for trying to clear it yourself.

Ooops, just pressed a hung primer through a Hornady tube with a small wooden dowel. I do believe I will think twice about this, and buy some more tubes.

you will be fine just go slow, I have got primers sideways and crushed them without incident. Send it to me and ill push it out for you.

I don't know how "stuck" it is, but I was able to dislodge one with compressed air one time.

I've had a few get stuck and I just use the plastic rod that actuates the low primer alarm to push it out. If you are using hand pressure and the plastic rod (NO TAPPING WITH A HAMMER) the primer won't be subjected to anywhere near enough pressure.impact to set it off. If you can't move it with hand pressure then contact Dillon for a new one.

I tried putting some pressure on it. I better take it back to dillon, dont want to scare my wife and my dog to death, they dont like my reloading hobby as it is.

if i can push um out with no effort with the plastic follower rod i do. other wise i got spares and would give Dillon a call.
