Went to take my girlfriend plinking in my pasture last weekend and something strange happened. I have fired many rounds thourgh my old Glenfield model 30a with no problems. Went to cycle in a round and the lever stuck all the way open. I could see the round and it wasnt all the way out of the tube yet. Dont really no how to describe it but it was STUCK. Had to take a screwdriver and carefully get round out. Then ddue sojme more prying to get the lever unstuck. BTW i have never really cleaned this gun before because i dont know how...im to scraed to take eeryting apart without a manual to tel me how it goes back together. So mainly it just gets a good coat of wd-40 and lives behind the seat of my truck. Is there anywhere on the web i can get info on disassembly and cleaning? or any ideas on what may be wrong...thanks!

Right you are Atticus, specifically this FAQ tells you what you want to know: http://www.marlinfirearms.com/FAQs/index.php#Q02

Your use of WD-40 is a good formula to get exactly what is happening to your gun - it might be all gummed up by the use of WD-40 and the heat from the interior of your truck. WD-40 is a very good Water Displacement solution, but it is not a good firearm lubricant. You should switch to any good lubricant whether specifically designed for firearms or not (i.e., 3in1). IOW, any lubricant is better than WD-40.

I'm pretty sure you can get a free manual from Marlin as part of their safety program.

If you don't want to clean it, take it to someone familiar with cleaning guns. A gunsmith may do it for a small price.

If you want to do it yourself, here's what I use.
1) An old bed sheet. It's great for a clean surface to lay everything out on. When your done, simply wash it. No, I don't put it back on the bed!
2) A general purpose cleaning kit. In your case, one for a .22 rifle. It will include patches, cleaning rod, cleaning solvent, and a bore brush. Get plenty of extra patches.
3) Carburetor cleaner (spray) and an old toothbrush. It is good for removing built up carbon.
4) Gun oil, plastic bottle and spray can. Both have there uses.
5) A few different sizes of flat screwdrivers.

WD40 is good for light cleaning of mechnical parts. It is not a lubricant.

Thanks for the quick reply's guys. Good lord, what happened to my typing skills in above thread. Will check out marlin talk, dont know why i didnt think of it....im always lurking in the big bore forums.

I had a similar experience w/ one of my Marlin lever guns. I found that the screw that secures the loading gate had backed out. This screw is located about midway the receiver on the right side, level with and aft of the loading gate. Tightening it may cure your problem. Of course, cleaning it wouldn't hurt (no WD-40).

Marlin will be happy to send you a manual... along with a bill for the shipping.

I requested one a couple of years ago and was suprised to see an invoice for a couple bucks for shipping. :scrutiny:
