I just got a brand new 6 round Detonics mags for my Mark VI. In order to seat it properly, I have to hit the butt of the mag real hard to make it catch the mag catch. (I know this isn't good to do).

It looks like the base of the mag that sticks out has a little ridge on the baseplate that is hitting the mag well of the gun.

Also, it looks like the rectangle opening to catch on the mag catch is slightly smaller than the one on the original mag.

What can be done to fix this? Can I grind down that little ridge? Can I lightly sand the rectangle on the mag to open it up a bit? Or is this something a 'smith should just handle?

As a side note, I am using the Mark VI as my training gun and having my Colt Defender's grip cut to the same length as the Detonics. That way I won't be beating on the aluminum frame of the Colt as much. What I would like is a bunch of mags that I can swap out between the two.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I would think that it would be ok to disassemble the mag and make adjustments to the notch and smooth out that ridge. Just go slow on the notch, it is always easier to take a little more off, real hard to put it back!

The old Detonics Company is being resurrected as Detonics USA. When they get going parts will be available including magazines. To find out more go to www.detonicsusa.com. The site isn’t up yet, but you can e-mail them for more information.
