Proper set-up /Lee expander die and Auto disk powder measure

Is there a proper way to set up the Lee 'powder thru the expander die' and the Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure that will assure of throwing consistent charges ?

I would refer you to the Lee self-help videos for proper setup. I get very consistent powder throws with that dispenser, standard disks and Win 231/HP-38 powder. There are however some powders that do NOT measure well in some dispensers.

The videos should answer all questions, I suspect.

However, double-check to see that the drop tube is completely fit up into the base of the Lee measure. Since it's a squeeze fit and quite malleable steel, just cushion it with a rag and use pliers to check this. Squeeze, push up--it will seat.

A few years ago, when I was having trouble getting multiple Lee measures operating consistently, I found that the drop tubes were of varying 'length'--as in not properly seated. It was possible to get one measure running with one turret of dies, but if one simply changed measures to change powders, the disk actuator operated variably.

Once they were all seated properly, and the lengths all consistent, interchangability was fine.

Set the die where it just bells the cases to start the bullet but doesn't iron it back out when the case leaves the die(the hard pop on the down stroke). Make sure the press is well mounted so there is no shaking. Mine is always right on the money with the powders I use it for. One of my powders I know there is no way it can meter so I don't even try it gets measured by the scale/despensor only.

For initial set-up, or are you having a problem?
Which powder system are you using: The standard square powder hopper or the Pro-disc round hopper?

Make sure the hopper is mounted correctly. It can be mounted "backwards".
Make sure the disc is mounted ON the drive pin that moves it--in the little slot provided.

Mine is very consistent with the smaller particle (Ball-Rod/extruded) powders. Large flake powders don't prefer the LEE powder/disc system.

The die should be screwed into the turret so that the proper flair is obtained, AND, so that the hole in the disk is directly over the drop hole in the base. Screwing the die in or out of the turret moves the disk hole forward and backward when the ram is at the top of it's stroke. On all my calibers but one, these both occur at the very top of the ram stroke and the bottom of the lever stroke. On my 9mm setup it occurs a little before my lever hist the bottom, so my flairing is by feel. Never been a problem though.

Make sure the powder drop tube is seated against the shoulder in the powder measure base.
I had to correct this on a new measure within the last month and believe this to be an ongoing issue.
