PT111 Recoil Spring HELP!!!

Help!!!
I launched the smaller of the two recoil springs for my PT111 in to the great abyss. I called Taurus Customer No-Service, and they said they would put one in the mail for me that day. Three weeks later, no spring. I called Customer No-Service back, and they tell me the springs are on backorder, and that there is no estimated time of delivery. Any ideas out there? and yes, I am getting rid of my Taurus when I replace the spring. I have never dealt with sucha rude Customer No-Service Dept. in all of my life. It is back to Ruger for me!

I am really sorry about that. I ordered a grip from Taurus in Early December a couple of years ago. After about 4 months (they charged my card almost immediately) I called and told them to forget about the order TWICE and remove the charge. Both times they said they would. Finally, about six months after the order was placed it showed up. I was in the process of having the card company remove the charge when it showed up.

It only took me about 2 weeks to get my recoil springs when I ordered them. I guess I ought to order my NEXT set NOW just in case.

Of course my favorite Taurus service story goes like this:

Logistar: I'd like to order 2 replacement magazine springs for my PT111.
Taurus: (After fumbling around for a while.) Sir, we can't sell you the mag springs. You'll just need to buy new magazines. Would you like 2 new magazines for your PT111?"
Logistar: <You can imagine my response.>

I actually like the gun. What a shame.

Yeah, your experience sounds a lot like mine. At first they told me I couldn't by just the smaller spring for the recoil speing assembly, but that I had to by the enitre assembly. Needless to say, I put an end to that!

I have had somewhat good luck with Taurus Customer service. Except when I ordered springs. That took about 6 months due to, you guessed it, BACK ORDERED! When I did receive them they did not charge me for them.
I found that if I tell them that it is important that I receive the part in question because it is my carry gun and needed for security, I have received parts in as little as three days.
Oh, and don't bother calling Wolff Springs, they don't and quote " will not make springs for that gun"

PS Order more than one set at a time. They wear out fast if you shoot your PT-111 much.

When I had to contact Taurus for replacement parts I established a rapport with the person on the other end of the phone. Sounded like a youngish female, who for purposes of discussion I will assume was cute, although she may have looked like Ernest Borgnine's grandmother.

My point is that when I had a problem inthe future I had her name and extension number so that I could call her back. She remembered me. By making plesant small talk I got my foot int he door, so to speak, and I could be reasonably assured that since it had gotten to a little more individual level I would be taken care of...and I was.

Now, I did end up sending Xerox copies of the image of the springs I wanted to obtain, just so the parts pickers could have a little better idea what they should be looking for. Maybe thats he subliminal reason I bought 2 PT111's. One to shoot, one to disassemble for a parts reference.

Guess what came in the mail today? Just a week after I sent my letter? Yup the spring. Now I have a new problem. When I reassemble the pistol with the new spring, the guide rod seems to be sticking out like a quarter of an inch out of the front of the pistol (right beneath the barrel naturally). What is wrong? is the spring to heavy? and pushing the guide rod to hard? or is another part missing that is supposed to keep the guide rod from sticking out of the gun? What the F*&^? I am sick of this pistol! Any ideas?

You're fine. I noticed that with mine too. The spring will take a set and it will look normal soon. (Well... mine did after one trip to the range.) I don't think you have a problem.

Logistar is right. It takes a little time or a little firing cycling to set the spring in these. It'll be ok. For what it is, it's really not that bad of a pistol. I still like mine and trust it implicitly.
