I overloaded my cartridge by 1.2g. I was loading 44Mag using 240g XTP bullet with Alliant 300MP powder. That bullet calls for 25g of 300MP which would be the MAX load. The gun I will be using is a S&W 629 with a 6 inch barrel. Should I pull the bullets and start over or shoot them?

The data you're using is with a Speer GDHP bullet. It's my experiance the Hornady XTP bullet uses even less powder to achieve the Max charge and other bullets. If I'm correct those loads are even hotter than you think and should not be shot.

Pull it or Shoot it?

Well, you could drop back to the starting load and work your way up and see. I know I've had times when I was working up a load that I decided to stop before trying some of the hotter loads I had loaded up to try. Then when I got back to the bench I pulled those and went from there.

I reckon my way would only help if you were in fact, working up something new.

Pull Alliant powder guide 2011, i am looking at, lists a 300gr Speer UCSP - Powder 300MP- Fed 150 primer-federal brass-oal 1.665"- 22.0 gr.Maximum -1350 fps. Start low on the powder charge and work up as always. What does the UCSP stand for?
Speer Abbreviation Key:
BT - boat tail, CANN - cannelured, DC - DeepCurl™, FMJ - full metal jacket, FN - flat nose, GD - Gold Dot®, HP - hollow point, J - jacketed, L - lead, SB - Short Barrel®, SP - soft point, TMJ® - encased-core full jacket, RN - round nose, SWC - semi-wadcutter, WC - wadcutter, HBWC - hollow base wadcutter

Just an educated guess. Uni-Cor Soft Point.

For 20 rounds or 200 rounds(hopefully you would catch it long before that)---PULL EM!

If someone else overloaded their ammo and gave it to you to shoot, because it made them nervous, would you?

I vote "pull".

I recently over charged a 9mm 147 gr. XTP by 1.1 grains. I didn't know I had made the error until after shooting a couple of magazines though. I don't recall the exact charge, but the powder was Longshot. I think I loaded 5.9 grains, and the listed max was 4.8 grs. Velocity through the chronograph was 1050 fps and the brass was fine, other than some pretty flat primers. I've never used 300MP before, but isn't it a fairly slow burning powder? If it is, I would probably not be too nervous about just shooting it. I don't know, it's your call and you know your gun better than anyone here. You could single load one round and see how the brass looks after shooting it. I would take seating depth into consideration as well. If you are at least at SAMMI OAL you might be OK.

16:1 unless you want to post pics of a detonated handgun potentially.

If you are seriously considering shooting the cartridges, I think you may want to take up a different hobby.
