This is my new friend that I will spend time with to work out my problems and to clarify my mind:

Looks like a Mook Jong; aka Wing Chun dummy. The arms look somewhat angular from the photo, however, the arms appear to be at the angle for WC. Generally, WC dummies have more rounded arms. Different styles have historically had their own dummy variants for the various specializations (Shaolin Kung Fu, Praying mantis, etc.). That one looks like you would hit some angles if you did certain WC type movements.

Yeah it is a Wing Chun dummy. This one is a variant of the traditional one that is intended to be more compact. Being a college student, I don't exactly have the room for a full size dummy. The arms are squared for the simple reason that it is easier to construct. But they're hell on my forearms! :D

El Tejon- I couldn't believe it either. She is just going to tell her art snob friends that it is a "handmade piece of contemporary sculpture"

When my full-sized mook is done, I'm going to put a bear head on the trunk and bear paws on the arms. I'll be ready for SHTF from zombie ninja bears.:D

Hmmm, what would be in my BOB for zombie mook jongs dressed like bears? What would be my escape vehicle? (Maybe just turn off lights and walk upstairs from basement).

Dan, you need to post a poll: "Which gun for mook jong?":p

Skunk, this is The High Road now.:D No, just a arm (low strike to ribs, uppercut, etc.).

wing, need to get a heavy bag now that basement is done. Mook, heavy bag, wall bags, swords, pole, gloves, head gear, chest protector, training knives, training guns, et al. Man, for such a "stream-lined" boxing style it sure do have a lot o' gear.:scrutiny:

Dan always makes certain that the rest of us are awake when he goes through the mook jong form. Ear protection is needed.

A big :D

Wanderer- You do the traditional eight sets of the wooden man or other drills on it. Traditionally, the forms are only taught from Sifu to student so it is really a trade secret. One could look in books but they still aren't getting the real wooden man forms from the Yip Man lineage.

Wanderer, it's a training aid for teaching footwork with fluidity combined with blocking, interecepting and striking (and kicking), later weaponry (the staff/spear and the swords [the shorter "baat jam do" or "butterfly swords"]) for the beer-breath range fighting that Wing Chun Kuen stresses. The theory being that via continual drill a boxer will develop power by a correct relationship with his opponent.

However, Dan uses it to toughen his iron skin.:uhoh:
