Puttin' a shine on an auto barrel, yes or no?

While cleaning my S&W auto I remember seeing another auto that looked like the owner had shined the barrel. It was noticable when the gun was together. The barrel had a polished shine compared to the stainless handgun. I'm curious, can a stainless steel barrel be polished with something (maybe Flitz) or is this professonally done?

Dunno about stainless, but I polished the black off my glock barrel with flitz to a mirror finish.

As long as you don't over-do it and change any dimentions it should be fine. Most stainless will polish up nicely.
