Howdy folks.

I just became a first-time Beretta owner by picking up a PX4SC a few days ago.

While I'm not a complete newbie to guns, (owned a Glock 20, Sig 9mm, and still have a Cobra .380), I always just had them for JIC home defense situations and never spent a lot of time shooting them, learning proper techniques, learning how to properly clean them, etc.

So I decided to get a good all around handgun (I plan on adding a Mossberg 12 gauge and CX4 later) and take the time to learn, shoot a lot, take classes, and eventually get my CCW. While I'm partial to 10mm (loved my Glock 20) I knew the PX4SC was for me as soon as I saw it. Read the reviews which only supported my opinion. Also, as I will be spending a lot of time shooting I figured 9mm would save me some money in the ammo dept.

So, a couple questions. I plan on keeping this gun for a looong time and am debating on modifications/accessories. Obviously, as what you could consider a new shooter, I will be spending more time learning, reading, researching, and shooting than worrying about what type of new gizmo I need to attach off my gun. However, I've read a lot about what people think should be done to the PX4SC and I'm also wanting a light/laser for HD and training.

So, why do people consider the Super Luminova sights so horrible? I get that they won't last as long as Trijs and you have to charge them, but when I tested them they were nice and bright. I know keeping a flashlight on the nightstand next to the gun to charge the sights isn't ideal, but are Trijicons really necessary?

Plastic guide rod vs Steel guide rod...necessary?

Any rail attached laser/lights fit other than the Insight?

Anybody use the full size 17 or 20 round clips in the SC? Got pics? How does it affect your grip?

Thanks in advance. I shot about 150 rounds of 3 different types of ammo the other day. No problems, no issues, everything great. My accuracy left a lot to be desired, but after doing a bit of research I've found that my stance was wrong, my grip was wrong...yeah I don't blame the gun lol.

I have the PX4fs and I think the Luminova's are junk.

Now dont get me wrong I am a Px4 lover to the core, but I plan to replace those jokes.

Let's think about it:

Why do you want night sights on a gun?
To aid in sight acquisition by way of providing a mild light emission.

Ok, now lets say you just woke up to an intruder breaking out a window in your home.
You plan on grabbing a flashlight, shining it on the sights, and then taking care of business?

No, sorry bad plan. First off, your eyes are going to be adjusted to complete darkness, and immediately upon awakening you are going to turn on a flashlight in front of your face? Now you have lost any hope of seeing the other side of the room, much less spotting an intruder in the dark. Just stick with the darkness you are already somewhat used to.

Im not trying to give you a hard time, I hope I dont come off like that, I just think those "glow for up to 30 minutes, my ass" sights are really misleading. I use my PX4 as a bedside piece too, and I dont even consider the Luminova's as any sort of aid/advantage.

Needless to say, Trijicons are on the bill.

Hey, I appreciate the response.

Let's say you're going to put a laser/light combo on it. Would you still consider the Trijicons necessary?

As I said before, I'm going to concern myself with proper grip, stance, shooting A LOT, proper handling, training, etc, but I'm just looking at the future.

200 - light/laser?

100 - light only

80 - Trijicons (no idea how much to have them put on)

50 - Steel guide rod?

Even thinking of ROBAR lol.

Guess I'm wondering what the most important thing to do first is, etc.

Thanks again.

If its just home defense, Id say laser/light combo is the way to go.

If its CCW also, I'd definitely be putting some Trijicons on there.

Too bad they dont make CrimsonTrace's for Px4's....:cuss:

Personally, Im more of the old fashioned 4d MagLite kinda guy.

And The guide rod is fine. Iv looked into it and it just seems like a waste of money to be honest.

The polymer flexibility is actually a good thing, and hey, Glocks all have them too.

I trust that Glock and Beretta wouldnt be using them if they didnt either serve a special purpose or perform the same as steel.

If you do want one though, this guy is the man to get them from.

Thanks for the info, c919.

I think I'm going to stick with the plastic/polymer guide rod and just buy an extra JIC.

For the light/laser combo, I was wanting to get an attachable one so that when I get a shotgun later on and switch it to HD duty I could easily detach/reattach in between guns depending on my need at the time.

Any idea how much someone would charge to put Trijicons on?

Thanks again for the input.
