I picked up an interesting sporterized Springfield 1903 chambered for 250 Savage (250-3000). A fine old cartridge but was thinking of having the gun rechambered to 250SavAI, 257 Roberts, 257AI or maybe 25-06 to take advantage of the long magazine.

Looking for data on the various cartridges I found it a bit confusing. Just based on case volume one would assume the 250Sav would be the slowest with the 25-06 being the fastest. Seems to be a bit more complicated. Some sources say the 250SavAI produces higher velocities than the 25-06 others say the 257AI is not worth the effort because the 257 Roberts produces higher velocities. Some say the 25-06 is pointless because it doesn't have much potential beyond the 257AI. Lots of things like that.

Does anyone have some hard data comparing these cartridges with similar bullets and pressures?

Much of the Ackley Improved data / propaganda was generated years before there was any form of pressure test equipment available to reloaders, and even wildcatters like P.O. Ackley.

If loaded to recognized industry standard pressures, you will not find enough difference to matter.

I wouldn't mess with it.
The 250-3000 is a classic old round that will Get-R-Done.
With a lot less fuss, bluster and recoil then a 25-06 or .257 Bob.

IMO: A 250-3000AE would just be a total waste of your time & money with little if any performance gain.
