I just bought a Sears brand lever-action single-shot rifle that I am positive is the same thing as the Stevens model 89. I have an 89 also. For those of you who may not know the 89 has a Martini action just like the Ithaca 49 and is largely a clone of the 49. So, I bought the Sears gun off the internet and it looks like new so it has not been used much. I took it to the range and it shoot fine but the empty will not eject. On these guns ejection is very smart and will throw the empty several feet. However, this does not do anything except pull the casing out slightly from the chamber. I have it into the gunshop and the man there is speculating that there is a problem with "timing" in that he thinks perhaps the ejection system is makind the movement that ejects the empty before the breech block is down far enough for ejection to occur...that is, the block is in the way of the empty. He also speculated that since the gun appears to be virtually unused that the chamber may be a bit too tight on the casing.
With that I will ask what you experienced shooters can suggest about what might be possible. I am not that mechanical so I just thought perhaps a spring needed to be replaced or something of that sort. What do all of you think. Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give me on this.
