Hey all, I use Hogdon Universal for my 40 with a 155gn Berrys plated flatnose bullet. I would like to use Universal for my 9mm with a 115gn Berrys plated round nose. Hogdon specs out two 115gn bullets with Universal. One is a lead round nose, the other is a Speer Gold Dot hollow point. Berry's web site says to use the mid range of a jacketed bullet for their plated bullets but to use the same bullet profile. I understand there would be a difference between jacketed/plated or unjacketed lead bullets. But I still have a few questions for the more experienced reloaders.
1. When they use term "bullet profile", do they mean bullet type and weight or just weight? Which leads to question 2.
2. Is the bullet nose type a major factor when powder companies list their specifications when it comes to safety.
3. And would loading a plated round nose in the mid range of what Hogdon says for the speer bullet be safe?
