Mainly aimed for folks familiar with 1911's and/or CZ Compact/P-01/PCR/Compact D's and/or Springfield Armory XD's.

Currently I have a Springfield Armory XD-9, 4" Service Model that I like and I haven't tried carrying it yet but due to the size of the grip I'm afraid it will print under light clothes (t- or dress shirt) and due to an unexpected bonus from work I have an opportunity to change my gun if there's any point in it.

On to the question(s):

Which gun, the single stack 1911 or the CZ, do you find easier to conceal?

From what I understand the CZ is overall smaller than a 1911 but the grip may be a bit thicker, right (thin cocobolo grips might help?)? But a full size or commander size (or Dan Wesson Bobtail-type gun) 1911 has a longer grip, right?

So which gun is more concealable, a commander size 1911/Dan Wesson Bobtail or a CZ Compact (or P-01/PCR)?

My method of carry would be IWB.

How would you rate either, the CZ Compact or the 1911 Commander size against a Springfield Armory XD-9, 4" Service Model? Is either, the CZ or the 1911, easier to conceal than the XD?

I've gathered the CZ has a shorter grip (=easier to conceal) since it holds only 14 rounds compared to the 16 of the XD but what about the single stack 1911 holding 7 x .45ACP?

Thank you in advance, all info would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, PS. Does anybody know of a single stack 1911 in 9x19? Or basically any single stack 9mm's that are not sub compacts (roughly the size of a 4" 1911 or a CZ Compact)?

Not to take you off track, but if you're wanting a nine, you really should look at a Browning Hi-Power. It's a little smaller than a 1911, but with that same rounded-edges feel to it. That said, the P-01 does carry nicely.

Concealing anything really depends on the individual's body shape. Someone with wide shoulders and thin waist is going to have less trouble than someone with a big belly if trying to waist carry.

That said, you can definitely use thinner grips but make sure that you can still shoot the gun comfortable with the new config.

Make sure that you are using a quality belt & holster. These 2 will do more to help conceal a waist carried gun than any slight differences in pistol grip design.

Between a Commander 1911 and a CZ Compact/PCR/P01, as far as the size of the butt frames are concerned, it is pretty much a wash. The alloy-framed CZs, being lighter, will be a little more comfortable to carry than an all-steel 1911. Your holster willl probably conceal better if it has a so-called "FBI tilt" of about 15 degrees, butt forward. A good belt will help keep it from sagging away from your body. Concealment in casual clothing is pretty easy - I typically wear a "camp shirt" untucked. A T-shirt, untucked, as long as it has a loose fit (not too body hugging) should be fine as well. For a dress shirt you may have to make some adjustments.

first welcome to thr.
the xd's are awesome handguns, i have 2 of them. i had and carried the 4" service model, i used a owb holster and i had no issues wth "printing" also use an fbi cant on my holsters so that helps out to.

i would say stay with what you got and get a good holster that is condusive to good ccw. but that is no fun and every excuse to buy another gun is a great thing to have. since you already have the xd, and know the manual of arms, i suggest that you do like i did and get the sc version, for me that was the .40 to share mags with my service model .40 but for you get the sc. buy 1 pearce grip extenstion for the low cap mag, and then carry 16rd mags with the grip spacers for back ups. it is an awesome package, concealable, and a great relable shooter.
