I went to a gun show yesterday and got to check out several nice guns. One of which was a 6 inch model 27, old style with wood grips. I was extremely impressed by the feel of the revolver and how it balanced for my hands. My question is this, would a 57 or 29 feel the same? Is the muzzle weight the same? I've always wanted a 57 or 29 6 or 6.5 inch and was wondering if it would handle the same.

Thanks,

Tim

For me the difference in weight and balance is barely noticeable. The big bores are a little less muzzle heavy, but the only way I can tell is a side-by-side comparison. I have a friend who claims that the difference is easy to discern. I’ve only been able to compare the short lug variations.

My model 27 is slightly less muzzle heavy than my 57, 29, or 25. The 57, 29 and 25 have very similar barrel tapers and because the 57 has the smallest hole is more muzzle heavy than the 29 which is slightly more muzzle heavy than the 25. Thats comparing 6 inch pinned and recessed revolvers. I believe that newer revolvers may have different barrel contours wich may affect balance as well as I believe that once they started stainless models that many more variations of barrel contour has become common place. Like most things you would be best to handle potential purchases and see how they feel to you.
