I read a post about the half-cock position on the S&W 469/669. My pistol doesn't seem to have this feature. Did they do away with this at some point or do I have a problem? My S/N is TBW01**. I don't know if the 6906 has a half-cock position or not. If not, could this be a transitional pistol? I have no idea at which serial number Smith switched over from the 669 to the 6906. Anyone have any info on where my pistol falls in the s/n range for the 669 series?

Thanks,

Coffee

This rings a bell about a safety recall s&w did a few years ago.
Something about decocking a 2nd gen smith pistol while it's in the half-cock postion.
I'll be back in a few hours, gotta go now.

My 1986 669 had a half cock notch. The safety recall was in 1987 or 1988, they replaced some small parts but left the half cock notch. My 1990's era 6906 did not have a half cock notch. A gunsmith ground off the half cock notch on my 669. Didn't really need it

Thanks for the answers. My s/n falls after the recall, however. I was interested to see that the 6906 does not have a half cock notch. That and the fact that this one was made after the recall suggests that it may, in fact, be a transitional model. Oh, and Popeye, thanks for the great site. Didn't know that one existed. I'll be checking the rest of my pistols against that site. Anyone have any info as to how close my pistol is to the transition to the third generation guns or when my pistol was made?
Any further info in this half-cock issue is also appreciated.

Thanks,

Coffee
