Question about rifles in High power

Do a search for Service Rifle here and you'll get the whole story. Flat tops are considered Match Rifles. You don't have to put a carry handle on them then...you can do this:

what kind of sight set is that, steve? Cost? A friend of mine got an ultra match AR before the CA ban deadline. It's been sitting around without a scope or sights all this time. We're trying to get him into high power, that might be a set up he'd be interested in. Thanks for the info.

Most likely a Warner set, knowing the owner. They're certainly the most popular, from what I see. I'm not an MR guy, but I can point you in the right direction.

Peetmoss,
The short answer to your question is YES. Flat tops are legal whether you put a carry handle on them or not. They will be classified as Match Rifles rather than Service Rifles, but they are legal.

Thanks the only reason I ask is because I bought a 2003 Harley yesterday and well I spent my gun money on it. Now I have to get buy on the cheap for a while

PeetMoss,
You might be interested to hear about a project I've been working on recently. The premise is that there are many folk with AR's in their collection and some interest in Highpower Rifle. However they're often times intimidated by what they perceive to be the extreme equipment requirements of our sport.

My idea has been to buy the cheapest kit AR I can find, and go compete with it in it's stock form. I'll be using a cloth jacket, store store bought ammo and whatever other budget gear I can find. The idea is to show folk with you can actually have fun and do fairly well (that part is yet to be shown by me at least) with stuff that you might already have laying around.

I've got the kit from JT for under $450. A2 Upper with a 9 twist barrel. I just got in the lower and will hopefully assemble it this weekend. My cloth jacket and piece of carpet are ready to go.

Stand by for more reports on the "Budget Rat" project.

blind rat: I'am going to put my match ammo in some empty wolf .223 boxes and load everything strait from the boxes at the regionals and state matches and maybe even perry.
that ought to get some people really messed up on what ammo works well .
and that hesse arms ar15 t-shirt will having them throw away all those expensive rifles after the matches.

hey how about this a hesse arms hat with wolf ammo boxes with a pair of those fuzzy dice hanging from my scope stand and those funny looking buck teetha and if that does not get them to mess up next to me then man I do not know as I need those leg points real bad!

if that does not work then its back to bling!bling! gear.
