I have a Winchester AE in 44mag lever action. I have had it for years and never shot it, although I bought it used. It's in real nice shape. I was wondering how one would find out it's worth? Not sure if I want to sell it but if I could get enough money or trade for a Uberti 1860 yellow Boy I might be persuaded. The serial number is 6217xxx. Thanks for any help!!

New Uberti Yellow Boys run, what? $8-900ish?

In your LGS, trade in of your AE .44 might get you $250-300 maybe. Selling it face to face privately you might get $400ish. Maybe more, maybe less depending on location.

If your AE is a Trapper model or a Trails End, more value perhaps.

Just one idiots opinion mind you. Not much help I know. Will wait for others more knowledgabe w/ recent trades or sales to chime in.

I just picked up the rifle version with checkered forearm and pistol grip for $450. It was like new. Good luck with your endeavors.

I suggest you look at prices on Guns America, Armslist, Bud's Guns and other online sources. Depending on overall condition a nice clean version around here is about a $500 rifle give or take. Then too, any gun on any given day is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, no more and no less.

I was thinking in the $400-500 range, but I was looking at GunsAmerica and saw a few in the $900 range. I think mine is a Trapper. It does not say that anywhere on the gun but that is what the original owner said. It's a short barrel. I was not thinking of selling it untill I saw some of the high prices the Winchester 94 was bringing online. Of course what people are asking and what they actually get is 2 different amounts. Thanks for answers!

The Trapper (16" barrel) is somewhat more rare and preferred by a lot of Winchester fans, me being one. Great for woods hunting for closer shooting. If yours is a pre cross bolt safety, even more desireable.

Take it out once or twice and shoot it. Pretty good little thumper, let me tell you.

Having said that, it will be worth a wee bit more than your average run o' the mill 20" AE. Maybe $650 ish+ in a face to face. A bit more if you have box and papers to a collector. Maye $300-400 to a LGS in trade. Maybe.

The two Trappers I have are in .45 LC and a .30-30. The later being a century model of 1894-1994 with the cross bolt safety and John Wayne style large lever loop (not a great thing unto itself IMO, but there it is).

If the wood has any figure to it, even more desireable... or something to point out at least to a potential buyer (haggle fodder).

But, if you're never going to shoot it... move it for the best deal you can get. Someone out there will love it. Do you have a .44 handgun as well? (a point to also ask potential buyers who might like to have 2 complimentary firearms shooting the same cartridge)
