I bought a used Browning BDM which overall is in great shape.

I know that when the safety is on you can pull the trigger and it will travel the full travel length without resistance. My question is... when the gun has the safety enabled and you pull the trigger and then allow it to go back to the resting position is it normal for it to hit a sort of snag and sometimes get stuck before it travels the full length to the resting position?

No....It should be smooth with no hang-ups....I tried in both modes: pistol & revolver.....Has it affected the functionality of the pistol in either mode?
Also, check to see if your selector switch (P & R) are snapped in place.

I figured something was wrong with it.

Now the trigger is loose and pulling the trigger won't fire the gun... it feels the same as if it was on safety. I'm new to firearms, but I suspect a trigger spring is busted. Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the DFW area that would be able to fix this?

It will do that if a rd is not racked & chambered depending on which mode you are in....So, did you actually rack & try to fire the pistol? Just trying to check all bases....:)
I guess I should take it down to the range though and try with some live ammo before jumping to conclusions
Be safe my friend....

Well, I tried dry firing it in both modes. Yesterday before I realized anything was wrong the trigger pull made the dry fire work. After investigating the trigger/safety issue I seem to have busted something because it won't dry fire now in either mode.

I'm somewhat new to firearms, but I've learned alot from reading this forum. I appreciate everyone's help.

excuse me.... but are you insane? You think you may have broken your gun, it wont dry fire, but you want to test it w/ live ammo first? Fortunately for you, if it wont dry fire it probably wont fire at all but I would not try it. I value my eyes and thumbs. You should never fire a gun when you know its functionality is questionable. Would you drive a car when you are pretty sure the brakes dont work?
