Yep you got problems. I would print those pics and send them to Colt with the gun.
I will call them on Monday.Yep you got problems. I would print those pics and send them to Colt with the gun.
What a bummer! I really like the trigger. Not as smooth as a K6S, but it seems shorter and more deliberate. It’s tough to tell in the limited rounds I shot but it seems accurate and I really like the sight setup. Easy to track during recoil.
I am not a fan of the grips though. They stung where my thumb meets the web because they feel too wide there. I don’t really like the Hogues because of their size and I wish someone offered a rubber boot grip. My searching has brought up very few grip options.

This is the only other grip option I’ve found that seems reasonable.
Just put another bunch if rounds through mine this afternoon with the vz grips. I must say I really liked them. About half +p and half just good old wadcutters. Very pleasant. Very accurate. No qualms carrying this as my primary iwb.
That’s true. I was thinking maybe the headspace might be too tight, but if so that would cause a noticeable drag when opening and closing the cylinder.Zendude, with a properly fitted revolver those measurements would not be different be it loaded, or not.
He probably has a bent ejector rod. That would explain the cylinder rubbing the top of the barrel extension, the off-center primer strikes, and why it is binding/sticking when fully depressed. That’s true. Since it sounds like the only problem is the b/c gap being too small, it seems like it would be an easy fix at the factory by slightly filing the forcing cone.
Can you test for that by opening the cylinder and spinning it to see if the ejector rod wobbles? He probably has a bent ejector rod. That would explain the cylinder rubbing the top of the barrel extension, the off-center primer strikes, and why it is binding/sticking when fully depressed.
Possibly- I think I can actually SEE the bend in the pic he posted! Can you test for that by opening the cylinder and spinning it to see if the ejector rod wobbles?
Any factory defects should be sent to Colt for correction. Every gun maker has a “Friday afternoon” or a “Monday morning” gun. Sucks when that happens to you, but the manufacturer will fix it for ya. Just aggravating.
I have absolutely no problems with either of the new Colts. I have both a standard 2017 model and a 2018 Night Cobra. The pair ticked both boxes for me. I pack every day. Even got a 22 WMR in my pajama bottoms as I type this. I basically kicked my J-Frames to the curb and now carry the Colts. The standard model is my EDC gun and it is one of the very few guns that I did not feel the need to change anything on. The Night Cobra is reserved as my “go to town” gun when I dress up some, which is very, very rare. I don’t like to be out and about after dark, but the chances of me being out after dark would be greater during the few times when I have to go to the city so I love the factory night sight. Also it’s handy to grab when I see strangers at the gate after dark. The Hi-Viz sight is good enough during daylight. And yes, both sights are super easy to replace, and can be bought through Brownell’s. I’ve played with swapping after market grips, but went back to the factory ones. Rarely happens.
I bought two OWB open top pancake holsters from GBHolsterCo, a small shop in Tennessee. Great folks. Top quality. Both are brown leather, right hand and have a comfort guard that prevents the gun from pinching your torso when you holster your piece. I bought one for each because I keep trousers preloaded as to whether I’m dressing up for doctor visit or whether it’s going to be a typical day. I live on 20-1/2 acres up in the woods adjacent to government land, so don’t dress up often.
For EDC, extra ammo is carried in two coyote brown nylon pouches on my gun belt, two speedloaders in my vest pocket and a couple of extra Quickstrips in my left vest pocket. For dressier occasions, I carry two leather Galco Quickstrips carriers on my dress pants. Very close fitting. I’ve got critters so my EDC ammo consists of CCI 38 snake shot and heavy Buffalo Bore hard cast 158 grain SWC Outdoorsman plus P loads. For antipersonnel town carry, I tote 38 Special JHP. Less over penetration.
Now as to my guns: The double action is very smooth and takes less energy to stroke. My youngest daughter can’t pull the trigger on my Performance Center Model 640 Pro Series Century Frame (J-Frame) DAO 357 revolver; however, she has no problem stroking the Colts’ double action. Primer strikes are centered as they should be. I find lock up to be reasonably tight. More so than my S&W’s. Bear in mind, these are not, nor were they ever designed to be Diamondbacks or Pythons. This is not the niche they were designed for. As a personal pretection hand gun, they excell. When locked, there is very little play either end-shake or side-to-side. They shot to point of aim with 158 grain loads at say around 15 yards. With 125 grain bullets, the group goes a bit low. Shots run a tad high with 170-180 grain loads. For me, 158 grain hits the sweet spot.
As long as POA coincides with POI at reasonable defensive handgun ranges, I’m good.
Here both Cobras are posed with one of my GB Holsters. Very comfortable to wear.

I found him on Etsy.com, a website for small crafters, under GBHolsterCo. Fellow Southerner.
Good luck, SteadyD. I think you will like the gun much once the bugs are resolved.

Very nice. What’s you wmr make?
I think so too. I just hope some more grip options turn up soon. I would like a grip as small as is possible. Love the front night sight and how easy it makes changing it out.
Any word on the fix yet?
Thanks. I really like the sights and trigger as well. I hope they get it back to me soon and it’s in good working order. I’ll report back when they do.Well, good luck. I'm totally happy with mine; the trigger is excellent, it's accurate and been 100% reliable. Great little revolver. Hope Colt does you right.
Just got a letter from Colt today. Estimated repair time is 30 days, but they are shutting down from Dec 17 until January 2 for the holiday and that will add an additional two weeks. Basically it will be about two months from the day I mailed it to them, which is kind of disappointing.
