I was at the nra show this weekend and finally got to handle a hornady press. My initial impression of the textured ball handle was favorable. The smooth balls on my Lee and dillon presses kind of wear on my hand after a while. I've even used baby powder before to keep them from sticking to my sweaty mitt.

For those of you who have a hornady press, how does that textured ball work for you? should I be looking for one instead of my smooth ball handles?

IMHO, the smooth ball that came on my RCBS 'Chucker IV is more comfortable than the textured one on my Hornady LNL AP.
I've since replaced the LNL AP ball with a pool table ball and like it better still.

RE sticking to my sweaty mitt

Slip a small (kids) sock over the ball.

Mine came with the smooth but when the bar broke they sent me a new assembly which had the rougher texture. I did not like it, I switched my smooth one back on..

The smooth one glides in the palm of the hand a lot easier, less friction.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I haven't yet been able to get the old, smoothy ball off the old handle... they must have loctited it or something.

I have presses with both smooth and textured ball handles. I consider any difference inconsequential.

In-line Fabrication and $55 solved the problem for me with their roller handle

^^ This

I still use the ball on my LnL single, but its a very limited use press as I use it for just sizing LC 7.62x51 and I need alot of leverage. I never found the light texture to bother me personally.

On my other singles? Inline handle all day!

I have not seen the need to replace the handle on any of my presses (Hornady L-N-L, RCBS Pro2000, Dillon 550BL, Dillon SDB, MEC 600jr, Dillon SL900, and Redding Big Boss).

But, I'll admit to idiosyncrasies with other aspects of reloading and reloading gear.

I have the AP, not the SS, and had to wear a glove or it wore a hole in my hand. The Inline Fabrication handle was definitely more ergonomic. Good luck.

That's funny, I have the rough textured ball on mine and I have it about wore smooth. It never bothered my hand at all. I guess maybe my hands are tougher from being in maintenance my whole life.

I sheared my handle off... broke it right at the threads.

Hornady sent me the only handle they had... that from the LNL, which didn't quite match my ProJector's handle, so I had to customify it a little to get it to work.

People spend hundreds of dollars on different grips for their pistols, I just really don't like the feel of the cheezy plastic ball on the new handle.

For my Lee turret I bought a red billiard ball (#3)and drilled it to fit the handle, Odd drill bit size
It's a litter bigger.Much nicer
On the Hornady AP press the standard ball works fine for me.
