I know this is a stupid question, but can lead removal cloth (aka birchwood-casey) wear on stainless steel over time. I know you shouldn't use it
on blue, but is that because it strips away layers of metal? I really don't
want to start using it if it can increase my cylinder gap over time.

Again I apologize if this is seems obvious.

I think you'll shoot your cylinder gap out long before you can polish it away. I think you are concerning yourself with nothing.

Lead removal cloths seem to have no effect on the actual metal.

I've used them for many years on my revolvers and can detect no abrasion of the steel.

They use chemical cleaning agents, not abrasive particles. It won't wear or affect the base metal at all.
