I have a Colt 1911 Combat Elite that I purchased brand new about a month ago and have run maybe about 50 rounds on it and I have been very satisfied with it. I was playing with trigger today. I pulled back the hammer to half cock, depressed the grip safety and pulled the trigger. The hammer fell on the firing pin. I have a Ruger SR 1911 commander and a RIA 1911 9mm and tried to replicate it but both hammers did not fall. Is this normal? It sure doesn't seem like it.

It is normal, the Colt Series 80 does not have a captive half cock like a 1911.
The "safety stop" is meant only to catch the hammer if it somehow falls off full cock.

Perfectly normal.

There is no safety notch on your gun.

The ridge on the hammer that replaced it only slows down the hammer enough if the trigger isn't back that it can't drive the inertia firing pin out of it's hidy-hole in the slide fast or far enough to fire a primer.

Just ignore it.
And don't try to use it as a half-cock or safety notch.
Because it isn't meant to be one.

It is basically just a 'speed-bump' to slow the hammer down if it gets away from you somehow while cocking or lowering it fully.

The 1911 is only truly Safe when cocked & locked.
Or hammer fully down against the back of the slide.

The inertia firing pin is too short to touch the primer unless hit by a full speed hammer impact to drive it forward out of the slide.

The Combat Elite is a Series 80 model. Thanks for all your responses. That's a relief. I would have to hate to be disappointed with the COLT.
