I’ve been looking at the Sig P239 for the last couple months and have a few questions:

Is the slide or frame marked with the caliber on it, or is it just the barrel? For instance If I buy one in .357 Sig and drop in a 40 S&W barrel will the frame be marked .357 Sig and the barrel marked 40S&W?

Does Sig condone the swapping of barrels form .357 Sig to 40 S&W or is this just something people do? Also will it void any warranty?

Do you need two different mags, recoil springs, or anything other than a barrel to do the conversion?

Thanks, Dan

Caliber is not marked on the slide and Sig will even sell you the barrels. You don't need to do anything but change the barrels. But be careful not to put a 357 sig into the 40S&W barrel.:what:
The 40 S&W mags will take both rounds but the 357 Sig mags will only take the 357 so buy the 40's

HALT! STOP! WAIT A MINUTE!!!!

The best people to ask any and all of those questions will be the people here at SigSauer.

here's their info. you live on the east coast so times specified are approximate for you.

Sig Sauer
18 Industrial Dr.
Exeter, NH. 03833

(603)772-2302 Ext. 3111 (that's customer service)

Times of operation are as follows and again are approximate to the EAST COST

9am-4pm MONDAY thru FRIDAY

Please call Sig and ask them all of those questions, I work here as a security guard so I can't answer any of those questions. With that said, even though Ric is right about the markings and the selling to you of barrels through the company, you should only consult the company as to never harm yourself or the weapon and or void any warrenties that you may have upon it.

Now don't get me wrong anyone should post what they feel here, but I am giving you the best advise there is about answering those question IMHO.

The older 357SIG mags were caliber specific, but I believe all the newer ones are the .40S&W type mags and marked for both.

The SIG barrels do just swap by changing them and nothing else is required. They work as you'd expect. They will not void the warranty.

I have a spare .40 barrel for my P229. I bought it as a spare/backup to my 357SIG. I've used it a couple of times and it mostly sets on top of the couple of cases of .40 I bought to go with it. While it makes the gun a dual ammo gun, its one of those things that will rarely get used, unless something happens, and the 357SIG disappears, which I seriously doubt is going to happen.

All good info so far. :)

I'll just add:
Caliber is only marked on the right rear flat part of the barrel (the part you see in the ejection port) not on the slide.

You can tell the difference between P239 9mms and P239 .40S&W/.357sig by looking at the slide serations on the rear part of the slide.

The 9mm serations only go half way to the top of the slide.

The .40S&W/.357sig serations go all the way to the top of the slide.
