This is only a feeler thread about establishing a FAQ sticky for the Handguns: Autoloaders sub-forum.

Items included shall not be things like
1. caliber wars
2. steel frames vs. polymer
3. which condition (0-3) to carry a gun in...but would likely include the definition of those conditions without preference commentary

I would likely include the existing thread Trigger Mechanisms - a Guide; either the original post without additional commentary or a link to the original.

If you have a question, that you think should be included, please post on this thread.

I will not suffer arguments like "that's not true" or "no it isn't" to questions posted with answers. :cuss: This isn't a discussion thread, it is informational only. If you disagree, explain what you disagree with and facts supporting your differing point of view. A Question need not be accompanied by an Answer...I'll be happy to make one up :p

The moderators will be the final arbiters of what is included and which are the correct answers to be offered. I would be happy to attach credit to submitters if they would like. I also retain the right to edit submitted Questions for clarity...including, but not limited, to spelling and grammar

I'd likely start with something simple like the different Shooting Stances or Correct Sight Alignment :what:

How about how to grip an autoloader? I know there is a lot of discussion already on the board (with a lot of input from you) that could be cut and pasted in there. I think links to videos, of which there are tons, would be appropriate and helpful also.

do springs get tired?
(all variations, magazine, hammer, striker, recoil)

what gun do I get for my wife/GF/mom?
Reference to Cornered Cat and be done with it, once and for all

where can I get a small, light, cheap, accurate, heavy-hitting, high capacity, concealable death-ray knockdown powered handgun?

does knockdown power exist?

===

Also, while we're on the subject of the kludge the handgun forums seem to be becoming, how about a sub-forum of HG:G titles "handguns, concealing and carrying" to seperate out a category that doesn't really fit into holsters, wheelguns or autoloaders?

"Frangible ammo"
Link to the testing and leave it at that until someone gets some better testing published

"best .22 defense ammo"
Again, link to testing and be done with it

"best .22 handgun"
Just stop, nobody cares about your agonizing over a target pistol, and everyone is amused by the concept of only owning one .22 pistol in the first place.

1. The grip question is a thread I have started more than once...it might be time to roll it out.
2. Springs will be addressed...worked vs. compress...spring changes
3. I like the reference to the cornered cat
4. I guess I could quote Newton's law
5. I like the frangible ammo links idea (I copied yours from the other thread)
6. I'm not sure I'm ready to advocate for using an underpowered round for defense
7. I think folks get a lot out of Best threads. Either because it gives them a chance to post their favorites or if posters include reasoning, it can be educational

6. I'm not sure I'm ready to advocate for using an underpowered round for defense
I'n not advocating .22LR as an EDC round, but there's only so many types of ammo out there, and only some of it is optimized for handguns. All I'm saying is that there's too many threads on the subject and they all circle the same drain in the same way.

7. I think folks get a lot out of Best threads. Either because it gives them a chance to post their favorites or if posters include reasoning, it can be educational
I'll concede the possibility of there being some educational value, I'm just annoyed by people using the forum for the purpose of window shopping when they should be out handling and/or shooting stuff and then asking questions like "I like shooting {model xyz} and would like something that has {feature 1} but not {feature 35} from {model xyz}.

Could we have something regarding the best types of ammo for each caliber based on hard evidence and research? Something along the lines of the best technology available in bullet designs.

Erik M, you mean brassfetcher?
"best" depends on too many factors anyway, no ammo is awesome enough to make misses into hits, and almost all the duty loadings are designed to pass the FBI test anyway, there aren't any magic bullets because they are all designed to do the same thing, feed reliably in a variety of semiautos and punch ragged holes in gel to 12-18" depth.

I gather you're referring to things like RN, FMJ, TMJ?

Those things for sure. But I'm also talking about things that even experienced shooters wouldn't know. Things that are more common as "board speak" like EDC, or BUG. Things people wouldn't necessarily know even if they had been shooting for a long time.

I like this sticky aready

where can I get a small, light, cheap, accurate, heavy-hitting, high capacity, concealable death-ray knockdown powered handgun?
:D:D:D

Ammo

I second the idea of ammo links: which has the best penetration, reliablity, accuracy, etc. in the more popular calibers. We could even post who has the best price, or where it can be found in a given State or region.

What is a ramped barrel; pros and cons.

Different types of 1911 guide rods and bushings.

What do DAO, SA/DA, and striker fired mean....

Blowback vs locked breech.

Which cartridge designations refer to the same chambering.

1.) 1911's factory vs. semi-custom vs. custom/high-end. Why some cost more, what to look for, etc. etc.

2.)Sights. Stock vs. Nightsights vs. Warren and Dawson FO competition style. Modern sight combonations for IDPA etc.

3.) SA vs. DA vs. Striker fired. And why DA/SA is obsolete.

4.) List of know proper training options. Discussion about class recommendations.

5.) Modern grip stance. Links to youtube examples.

How about an encouragement to clarify what one means by "Best".

For example, we often see questions like: "What is the best 9mm?"

The answer would be that when phrasing such a question, one should include as many details as possible about what sort of features and situations one is looking to cover, for example: ...for pocket carry? For concealed carry in shorts and a T-shirt? For range and home defense only? Budget? Willing to consider used? Willing to buy online and have shipped to local FFL? Size of hands? Lefty or righty? For a woman or a man?

Something that explains (or displays) the different ways used to get a barrel to lock/unlock.

I've seen the STI 1911 video, which is pretty cool, and I'd like to see others if they are available.

I understand the Sig/Glock style lock up are pretty similar to the 1911, just without a link, but a Beretta 92, or PX4, or the way the Ruger P345 or P95 lock/unlock, would be interesting.

We often see people asking for recommendations on what handgun/ ammo is best for them. There also seems to responses asking clarification questions.

How about a sticky containing a list of questions that need to be answered (to the best of their ability). Size of the person, intended uses, preferences for caliber or action, CCL or duty guy, level of experience, etc.

An in depth article on bullet weight vs. Its point of impact and why this occurs. I know a lot of people who dont understand this.

I liked the idea of posting photos of different carry and competition sights, and maybe photos of what the sight picture looks like from each sight.
