Questions for a possible FAQ thread

You might include it isn't much difference between striker and hammer. What the trigger does is what is different.
Drop safety since the Colt SAA and having the hammer resting on an empty chamber even then. People WILL drop guns.
How velocity is overrated and foot pounds at the furthest expected range is more important.
Choosing a firearm: what target, what range? A dedicated self defense auto pistol is quite a bit different than a paper puncher, and why, which goes into sights, controls, etc. Goes to when you expand one capability you diminish another, Ex. range race guns are not superior in concealed carry self defense.
Which then brings up, what the police do and carry are not good examples of what we as civilians need. Ex. Belt carry is not the end all be all for CCW.
Overall, it's just one type of bullet launcher, the bullet is what does the work, the launcher is just reusable.
"What gun should I get my wife?" ANSWER: Don't. Let her pick it out. Just stand back and be nice when she comes home with it. After all, it's loaded. How many times have we heard "I got her a gun and I shoot it all the time." Well then, you didn't get her a gun, you got an excuse to get another gun. She likely tells her friends it's not really hers.

Stuff like that?

Forgot to add - please no "Best of" suggestions. The internet is full of know nothing bloggers recommending all sorts of new Chinese imports that are sold out on Amazon by the end of March. I never did understand how something could be the Best of 2021 before the year was even over, plus so much of it poorly designed or even applicable to the category. Try "Best of SubCompact Pistols" and 2 of 10 don't really fit, the others are stretches, and if there's a winner it's never the one we own 9 out of 10 times. Odds. It's just click bait "Check Price at Amazon" hopium.

There be shills all over the internet and the worst are the ones who block or remove comments. They never correct their misinformation.

It’s been some years since I read through these suggestions and now I have one of my own. I’d love to see a sticky for each shooting discipline, to include: firearm(s) needed, common makes/models seen in action, beneficial accessories (target grips, hand rests, ARCA rail, peep sights, fortune cookie bag, knee pads, etc.).

As a non-competitor I wouldn’t understand differences between 3-gun and IDPA, SASS and PRCSE. Having clear pictures, possible links to aftermarket suppliers, and perhaps a ballpark estimate of equipment costs (including perhaps reloading supplies) might get people interested in pursuing more firearms related disciplines. I’m sure more than one guy has a Ruger Precision Rifle in the safe that’s only ever punched paper at 100 yards.

Finally, a list, if such exists, of contact info or events for each category. Keeping all of this under THR’s roof makes the process painless compared to reading about Appleseed then having to search the web for “Appleseed” and getting off tracked by the Burpee Seed Company or another special offer from TruGreen Lawn Care.

How about a sticky that just says "Before you ask, do a forum search. It's been asked before, and there is a thread on it here somewhere."

But that would go over as well as my request for a FAQ sticky on cleaning brass!:uhoh:

There was an earlier suggestion of talking about 1911s and the differences between production, semi-custom, and custom. I think that would be good, but it should also include a discussion about different frames (govt, officer, etc.) as well as basic descriptions of things like beavertails, WWII sights, etc.
