I know from the instruction book from my Saiga AK that they make a version with a detatchable shoulder stock but cant find one for sale. Unfortunately where I live putting a folder on the rifle is not an option. Does anyone make a detachable ( non pistol grip ) stock? That would make storage & transport a lot more handy. Seems like it shouldn't be too hard, as far as i can tell the stock is only held in place by 2 flat head screws

I think that in the USA, removing the stock from a non-dissassembled rifle might be a violation of the National Firearms Act, but I’m not positive.

I seem to recall that those models were based on the triangle-folder receiver. Instead of a triangle stock, it was a sporter stock and no pivot pin. That makes a conversion ...impractical.

The lazy solution would be to keep a screwdriver in the gun case. Another option might be to replace those screws with thumbscrews.

Tromix used some kind of quick detach pin in those screwholes for some of his Saiga shotguns a few years back. You should look up Tony Rumore and ask him about it.

It's perfectly fine to take the stock off of a rifle. But if you make the barrel shorter than 16 inches you might run into trouble. I'm not sure if that would be an NFA violation but certain states and/or cities may have an issue with that since it would essentially make it a pistol. And once you make it a pistol (legally or not) you can't put a stock back on it without a tax stamp.

Its legal to remove the stock, since the barrel is 16, and the overall length is greater than 26". The 26" thing is the loophole that makes the shockwave shotgun not a "handgun" by legal standards. All long guns have to have longer than 16" barrels and be longer than 26" overall, shotguns must be 18" barrel and over 26", the shockwave is an "other" so it has to be over 26" as well or its a "handgun".

Can you have a stud that just sticks out of the back of the receiver, so you just screw the stock on? Make the stud a 1/2" or 5/8" with a fine thread, 5-6 rotations, with it timed correctly so it lines up and tightens with the receiver should make for a nice detachable stock ... I was thinking the aluminum triangle stock that Manticore makes would be a good candidate, even if you have to put a steel thread insert in it.

looks like i would to go with thumb screws or maybe a hitch pin. I was hoping for an easy conversion, I guess not. I think I'll just stick to the AR for a pack gun.. Have I come across one of those removable stock versions one day
