Quick, possibly dumb question

If one were to build a left-handed AR, the only thing they'd need is a left-handed upper, parts kit w/ambi selector & mag release, and a standard lower, correct?

I ask, because as a lefty, I need a setup that will keep the gases blowing in my face to a minimum - something that doesn't seem to be possible with a standard AR.

Thanks!

You might check out Stag Arms, they have several left handed models, unless you just want to build one.? I think there are a couple other companies that are building left handed models now?

Have you tried shooting a standard AR-15 from the left shoulder? I am left handed, shoot portside, have owned both a Bushmaster and a Colt, have shot a couple military M16s, and never had gas in my face.

My current AR-15 is a Colt AR-15A3. The only mod I made to make it more southpaw friendly was to install an ambi selector from DPMS.

Actually, I've never shot an AR, period. The concern I have about excessive gas in the face comes from shooting my Hi-Point 995 carbine. While I know they're nothing alike (aside from both being rifles, obviously) when I shot the carbine the other day I caught so much exhaust from the ejection port it wasn't even funny. I figured that the situation would be pretty much the same regardless of what semi-auto rifle I shot, so I started thinking about the lefty rifle setup.

I'll be taking trips to my local shop/range before I buy an upper, so I'll check out a few of their AR's and see how the standard setup works. I've shouldered them before, but just at random times, when I've had a few questions and wanted to see how they felt, etc.

honestly, i doubt switching the port over to the other side will change how much gas you get in your face. i'm a lefty and don't notice a difference when i switch hands
